Rosalynne Smith's POV:

I'm in the middle of getting ready for the reaping when I hear a loud thud and the sound of a bottle shattering. Ryan and I run downstairs to find my dad on the floor with a smashed bottle of alcohol beside him. Ryan and I both sigh at eachother and continue getting ready.

Our mother and little brother died a few years ago because of being sick, and ever since then our father has been drinking. A few years before they died, our older brother died in the games. Ryan and I were going to volunteer to get away from our father, because he gets abusive when he's drunk.

We both finish getting ready and head to the reaping. We sign in and stand in our section. Our escort Sonia Ericsson walks out to start the reaping.

"Hello children of district 4, and welcome to the reaping for the 100th annual Hunger Games!," she yells, "but before we begin, we have a special video from the capitol."

It's not really special, it's the same one every year. It finally finishes and the actual reaping starts.

"Our first set of twins is," she says as she walks over to the bowl and picks one out. She always takes her time for suspense.

"Amethyst and Amber Jones," she yells. I hear 2 girls shriek from the 12 year old section.

"We volunteer!" I yell before my brother or anybody else can.

"Wonderful, come up here you two," says Sonia.

As we walk up I look at the 12 year old section and see 2 girls with tears on their face, and one mouths a thank you to me and I smile at her.

"Names and age please," says Sonia.

"Rosalynne and Ryan Smith, 15," I say.

"Beautiful, now for our second set of twin tributes," she says. She walks over to the bowl and picks another slip.

"Oh, how unfortunate, it's Amethyst and Amber Jones, again," she says. This time, nobody volunteers.

The girls walk up to the stage. I look at one of them who looks at me. I mouth a sorry and she mouths back an it's ok.

We finish and head off to rooms to say goodbye to our family, but we have nobody. Our dad refuses to say goodbye. Eventually though, an older boy, about 19 comes in.

"I'm Aaron. Amethyst and Amber are my sisters. I just wanted to say thanks for volunteering, even tough the odds definitely weren't in their favor," says the boy.

"You're welcome," says Ryan and I at the same time.

"Don't worry, we'll take care of them," I say.

With that he walks off and we are taken to the train.
