12) District 12 Reaping

Summer Sky's POV:

My sister Autumn and I walk to the reaping with our younger siblings, Rainy and Sunny, who are also twins. We are all named after something that has to do with nature.

"I'm really nervous," Sunny says,

"Don't worry, district 12 has a big population, with plenty sets of twins, it's very unlikely you'll get picked," I assure her.

We sign in and I watch their dirty blond hair dissappear in the crowd of other 12 year old twins.

"Welcome, twins of district 12," says our escort Jewel Trinket. Her mother, Effie, was the escort years ago.

"We have a few messages from the capitol, then we'll start," she says.

We watch a few videos this year, then we start.

"Sadie and Saige Attickson," Jewel calls out.

Two 12 year old girls walk up to the stage. Their mother tries to run after them and their father chases after her. The peacekeepers run at them, but they disobey. There is a loud gunshot and the two parents are dead. The small girls on the stage scream and cry and are taken off of the stage.

"Well well, quite the action here in 12," says Jewel and she continues with the reaping.

"Rainy and Sunny Sky. What beautiful names."

No.

Not my sisters.

I look over at Autumn and she nods.

"We volunteer," we yell at the same time.

We walk to the stage and ignore Rainy and Sunny yelling at us not to.

"Names?" Asks Jewel.

"Summer and Autumn Sky," I say, "14"

"Oh, sisters, I see," says Jewel.

We go to a room and our sisters and parents come in.

"Whyyyyyy," Rainy cries.

"You're so young, you don't deserve to die yet," I say.

"Neither do you," says Sunny.

She has a point.

We all pull into a group hug. Our mother fastened necklaces onto our necks. It has 4 small pictures to represent our names. A leaf for Autumn, a raindrop for Rainy, a sun for me, and a rainbow for Sunny.

We hug for a while before the peacekeepers come and drag our family out. I stare at the door, expecting them to come back in. But they don't.
