10 | So This Was Totally Unexpected

I looked around and rubbed my eyes, then looked around again. This village really is full of other humans.

As Marshall and I walked around, people gasped and shouted, "SHE'S BACK! SHE'S BACK!"

I was very unsure of what that meant and I reached for Marshall's hand.

"What are they talking about? Are they talking about you?" Marshall looks at me with a confused look.

"I have no idea," I answer, just as confused as he was.

A blonde couple ran up to Marshall and I and Marshall gasped, "Fi.. They look like you.."

I look at them closely and I notice that they do look like me.

The couple hugs me and pulls away. "Sweetheart, we've missed you for so long.. We thought you were.." The woman stops, then glances at her husband.

"We are your parents.. remember?" The man gave a weak smile.

I don't know what to say. I don't even think I can speak. "Why did you guys abandon me when I was a baby?"

I look them straight in the eyes. I didn't actually mean to say that. It slipped right out of my mouth.

The pair exchanged a look.

"Well," my mother starts, "we didn't mean to! We were walking, your father and I, and we had you with us. All of a sudden, these mutant.. candy things attacked us.. And they took you and we ran as far as we could. I'm sorry, Fionna," My mother sighed.

So, this is a lot to take in.

"But you came back! To stay, hopefully?" My dad smiles, his eyes hopeful.

"I.. Well, I live somewhere far away from here.. In the Land of Aaa. Its a place full of.. different beings. Like the candy people, or the Lumpy Space people.. Its much different than it is here," I sigh.

"Oh.." My mother frowns, then she looks at Marshall, who has been hiding his face behind his umbrella the whole time. "Who's this? Is he like them?" my mother steps towards him, slowly lifting the umbrella seeing his greenish-gray skin and she gasps.

"Sup?" Marshall grins, his fangs showing.

"Who are you?!" My mother steps back, startled.

"Marshall Lee, the Vampire King." he bows then takes my hand again.

"And are you two.. dating?" My father raised an eyebrow.

"Yes," I bite the inside of my cheek and grab Marshall's hand.

"You can't date a vampire! You're too young to risk your life like that," my mom's eyes were wide.

"Mom, it's been sixteen years. You can't just automatically begin parenting me. I can date him if I want." I frown, hating that everyone thinks I'm just a little girl. And that my parents can just start bossing me around after sixteen years. It was a little frustrating.

My mother sighed. "You're right.. Sorry, hun. Well, come inside our home, please, and tell us about 'Aaa'." my mother smiles and we follow my parents into their home.

We sit down and Marshall sucks the red out of some strawberries, surprising my dad and my mother hands us some tea. Marshall and I talk about the Land of Aaa, the creatures and adventures.

I'm really glad I found my parents. I was really happy.

Until we heard people screaming outside.
