What inspired you to write Forget Me Not?
I really wanted to write a story on amnesia but I didn't want to do the cliché route where the lover loses memory and the other tries to help retrieve the memories and stuff like that. It was dry and not interesting, very predictable.
And then one day, I got an idea of writing about a character with a memory disorder instead. A memory disorder in which it erases itself during stress or emotional trauma and fabricated memories.
And so I decided to write an angst, a tragedy in hopes to break everyone's heart with innocent memory disorders.
What was your favorite chapter/part to write?
My favorite part of writing Forget Me Not is putting in those small details in each chapter. Prior to writing this book, I've planned out everything very carefully. Everything played an important role, like how [Name] called Oikawa 'Tooru-chan' before her memory loss and then switched to 'Oikawa-san' after. Or how Sakura plays baseball is something important. Or how Ryouichi's death was important. Or how there were parallel events in the book like when [Name] played the walking on the white line game.
If Sakura hadn't played baseball, [Name] might have gotten hurt.
If Ryouichi hadn't die, maybe [Name] would have never met Oikawa. Maybe she wouldn't even be in the same school. Maybe her memory disorder wouldn't be as bad as it is now. Maybe Sakura would have a different personality.
All these little things were my favorite when I wrote this book. I couldn't wait to 'shoot' after pulling out so many 'Chekhov's guns'.
Who was your favorite original character (OC)?
This is pretty hard to pick but I would have to say Ryouichi. (lol what do you mean hard to pick, you call him your son and cry about him for like a day)
Ryouichi has a very significant role in this story, even though he only appeared in like two chapters. He had been in my mind ever since I was planning this entire book, even before I came up with Kimi or Sakura.
He reflects on the big brother I always wanted. *coughs* Makoto reference *coughs*
Why didn't any passerby's help save Oikawa and [Name] in the final chapter?
Like I mention in the previous answer, there are details in the story in previous chapters that could explain.
When Kimi makes her appearance again after so long, she was being bullied by a guys for working in a café. If you read carefully, Kimi mentioned that it's a quiet café, meaning not many people go there.
Meaning, there were no passerby's to help.
This might not have been clear but now I'll make it the clearest possible.
At that time, there were close to no passerby's. Maybe there was at least a couple of them, but they were too afraid and didn't want to get involve with it, so they ran. Yes, people are actually like that in real life.
Did Oikawa really lose his memories?
Prepare your kokoros as it is about to become brokoko.
No. Oikawa did not lose his memories.
As I said before, there's tons of details and hints as to what happens in the future. If you took note of those little things, you would have guessed the same.
