I hear birds singing and I open my eyes. My head pounds like a possessed and I blink a few times. Now I notice I’m on the ground. ‘Did… Did I fall out of the tree…?’, I whisper while I look up. I feel a horrible pain in my back, but try to stand up. I need to find a good shelter, I say to myself. No trees anymore. When I try to look around, I notice it’s still dark. I lean against the tree I fell out and take a deep breath. I start walking, but with no success. I have to lean against the tree five meters further, otherwise I’ll collapse. My back hurts too much. I slap myself in my face and force myself to walk on. I look to my feet, to make sure I don’t trip over something. But there’s still a big chance to trip, because of the darkness.
After I guess, twenty meters, I get really tired and fall on the ground. The pain in my back is unbearable. Closing my eyes, I place my hand on my forehead. It’s all sweaty and my breathing is too fast. I swallow and make fists of my hands. I bite my lip and get on my knees, placing my hands on the ground, right under my shoulders. I put my head up and I see light. A light. Light means civilization, or at least a house! I collect all my power and crawl towards the light. Every meter I get closer, I get more exhausted. Tears flow over my cheeks, the pain… It’s too much. I bite my lip even harder and I taste blood. I crawl on but my leg gets stuck. I turn around and fall on my side. I can’t move anymore, so exhausted am I. Shall I just try to sleep? I close my eyes.
I can’t sleep because of the pain my back and I turn around. Luckily enough my leg isn’t stuck anymore because I turned around. I gather all my power and hope and crawl on. ‘I need… To make it… To the light…’, I whisper while I crawl further. My head still pounds, tears roll over my face and blood drops out of my mouth. I look in front of me, the light’s getting closer. I see it’s coming out of a window. It’s a house. A giant, old house. All the windows are covered with curtains, except the one where the light comes out. I don’t know if I’ll make it… Am I strong enough? Throwing my hands in front of me, then pull myself towards them and rest for a minute. This continues till I’m about seven meters in front of the door. I can’t go on.
My eyes rest on the wooden door, hoping for someone to come out. But of course, no one. Slowly my hope starts to go away, so as the strength in my body... Still looking at the door, my eyes slowly start to close. But not because I'm going to sleep. Hope, faith and joy are word I've never known. Pain, terror and sadness, on the other hand, are well known. As my thoughts drift me away, a bright light shines on my face. 'Don't go to the light!' I hear my mother yell. I guess I don't have a chance, sorry mom...
Wait a minute... I narrow my eyes and see the door being opened and two persons stand in it, shining a flashlight on my face. 'Help me!' I want to yell. But nothing more than air comes out of my mouth. Why don't they come? Are they letting me die just here?! Two other persons appear and they run towards me. Yes! Yes! I see them staring at me, not knowing what to do. They look at each other and one walks to my feet and the other one to my hands. What are they... Before I can even finish my thought, I feel two hands on my ankles and two on my wrists. Oh gosh. My arms and legs are already off the ground. No, no! My back--
The pain. Is unbearable.
