*****Chapter 11: The One******

Finding the perfect dress for a huge event is tough. Adding your boyfriend to the situation can make it better or worse. Luckily for me it made it better. I had tried on countless dresses in countless colors and was getting so frustrated with myself and was ready to quit. But with every dress and time I wanted to quit Jake found a way to make me feel better about it and helped me try on another one. By this time it was 2:30, which meant I had 2 ½ hours to find a dress, eat, and got to rehearsal. I was very discouraged to say the least however Jake was determined to make me happy and get a dress. He got up walked to a rack and grabbed this dress. I hardly had a chance to look at it before he handed it to me and said

“Go on, try this one. It seems like it could be the one “His face looked happy yet serious knowing I was going to argue due to my disappointment to far

“No objections just go” he said pushing me to the changing room. I put the dress on and looked at myself in the mirror and smiled. Wow he was right. I stepped out of the changing room smiling so wide I might have pulled a muscle in my face. He turned to see me. Jake just stopped his eyes looking me up and down in what I hoped to be awe.

“Well what do you think? Is it really that bad?” I asked.

“N-No. Not at all. You look absolutely breath taking.” He said walking over to me. I turned around and looked in the big mirror that was in the center of the store. It was purple, mermaid style dress with a sweet heart neckline. Beads lined the top of the bodice and beads scattered around the dress. The bottom has slight pickups cascading to the floor becoming looser as it reaches the floor. The dress itself has an ombre color purple getting dark at the bottom. Jake came up behind me and wrapped my arms around my waist, resting his head on my shoulders.

“This is the dress. If you won’t buy it for yourself I will buy it for you. Cammy, you look like a princess. My princess. I never want you to forget that.” He whispered in my ear.

He reached in his pocket and took a picture of the two of us in the mirror. “I will send it to you so you will always see how beautiful you are.”

“Thanks Jake. I couldn’t be happier in this very moment.” I said looking up at him.

I turned to him and gave him a light peck on the cheek before turning and going to change. I came out with the dress in hand and I began to look for my wallet when Jake grabbed the dress and ran to the check out before I could stop him. He refused to let me pay as he did it himself. This small gesture made me love him even more. If that was even possible. And with that he handed me my new dress and we walked out together.

“It’s 3:00 so we have two hours. We can take the dress back to your place, you can change for rehearsal and then we will get food on the way there. Does that sound ok?” he asked as we got into his car. I just nodded and we drove home.

Once we got back to the apartment I unlocked the door and let him in first. As I came in holding my dress Jake had already found his way to the couch and was getting comfy.

“Come join me Princess” he whined as I walked into my bedroom shaking my head.

I hung my dress up and closed my bedroom door as I changed into my tights, black leotard, and yoga pants. I grabbed my light blue, silky dance skirt and threw it into my bag. I heard a small knock on the door knowing it was Jake becoming impatient and he wanted to come in. I walked over to the door and let him in. he saw me in this tight and somewhat revealing dance clothes. He looked at me with such lust and just looked me up and down. I turned around and walked to my dresser and took out my brush and hair supplies and began to brush my hair so I could put it in a bun. I was slowly brushing out my hair; I could see Jake in the mirror, standing a few feet behind me just looking at me.

God did I want to kiss him. He must have read my mind because just then he came up behind me turned me around and kissed me. I set the brush down and ran my hands through his hair deepening the kiss. He had his hands around my waist pulling me closer to him as he kissed me with such love and compassion it made my heart beat faster. When he finally broke the kiss he just held me as I closed my eyes never wanting this moment to end. After a moment, I pulled away and said

“I have to put my hair up and then we can leave ok?”

He nodded and grabbed my waist as I pulled my hair back into a tight bun. Out of nowhere Jake whispered in my ear “I’ve got you” and then kissed my shoulder ever so gently. I just smiled and grabbed my dance bag as he took my hand and led me to his car.

By this point I was starving. We stopped at the nearest hotdog stand and got 2 hotdogs and shared a large drink. We brought our food back to the car. It was 3:45 and the banquet hall where practice was being held was just a block away so we had about an hour to sit and eat.

We were in his car listening to the radio laughing and having a good time. He was making jokes about anything, making me laugh so hard I couldn’t breathe. He suddenly stopped and looked into my eyes. His icy blue orbs looking deep into mine. I felt this warmth rush over me.

“I love you Cammy. Nothing will ever change my mind. Everything about you makes me realize how lucky I am to have you in my life. You smile, your eyes, your laugh. The list is endless. Thank you for making my life worth living.” He said never breaking eye contact.

These words brought tears to my eyes. “I love you too Jake.” I replied as he wiped away a tear that was trickling down my face. He said this to me with such a genuine tone I knew he was telling the truth. Then he gave me a quick kiss and started to drive to rehearsal since it was 4:40 and I wanted to get there early so I could warm up.

We got to the hall I walked into the ballroom area just ahead of Jake. I stopped taking in the view. It was a great room with gold framing the almost porcelain walls. Huge crystal chandeliers hung from the ceilings in various places. The room screamed elegance. The floor was shiny light wood with tables surrounding the make shift dance floor. A large stage was along the back wall where I would give my speech. I stood there in awe. I walked over to the dance floor, kicked off my shoes, and walked on to the floor. My other dance friends were all arriving and came out to the floor. We all began stretching and Jake sat in a chair near the floor at a table. He sat there smiling at me as I stretch.

It was finally 5 and everyone was here. The owner walked over and told us how this was going to happen. My solo was going to start out the night. My solo was a lyrical piece titled “Who You Are” it was about never forgetting who you are. After that I had one number to change and then I was going to perform my trio called “The Missing Piece of Me”. It was a romantic lyrical number about a girl who was broken hearted and this new guy comes along and shows me how to love again. I had told Jake beforehand about the trio because it was very intimate and romantic and I wanted to make sure he didn’t take it the wrong way like some of the other girls boyfriends in the past had when they did a piece like this. My partners for the trio were my close friends, practically brothers, Derek and Mark. The way the three of us danced in a piece together was breathtaking. In  my opinion, this was going to be a very moving piece. After all the announcements we all stood up, I kissed Jake and then we all left to change. The night went by fairly quickly. Most of the numbers went smoothly as planned.

By seven o’clock I was exhausted so I just wanted to go home and sleep because tomorrow was the day before the banquet so it was going to be very stressful. I had to prepare my speech, get my costumes together and all my makeup for the performances in order so I wasn’t rushing around on Saturday (the day of). Once the owner dismissed us jake and I walked to the car and we drove back to the apartment.

“ As much as I love you spending the night with you, don’t you think you should spend tonight at your place I’m sure your mom misses you.” I told him as we stood in the hall.

“I was thinking the same thing. I don’t want her to feel left out. I will come by in the morning around 11 to just hangout is that ok?” he asked

“ That’s perfect” I replied giving him a kiss and heading inside.
