****Chapter 13: This is it****

We walked into this large banquet hall and it seemed to have changed almost overnight. Yesterday it was hardly full with any décor what so ever and now it looks absolutely magnificent. They had white silky tablecloths lining the tables and beautiful glass vases with purple orchids. The room was dimly lit with purple back light to bring out the flowers. It was so gorgeous. Jake was walking beside me with his arm around my waist as we walked in all my friends greeted us, people I didn’t even know seemed to know me. Which I found a little odd but I was having such a good time I didn’t care. Nothing could make this day better, I had the love of my life at my side and I was going to be giving the performance of a lifetime.

Dinner was going to be served in an hour and that was when I was going to perform, as entertainment for the meal in a sense. This meant I had 15 minutes to relax and then it would be time for me to go back and get ready. So needless to say I didn’t have much time at all.

Jake and I walked over to find our table so he would know where to go once I was backstage getting ready. It turned out we were seated almost directly in the middle of the hall, just at the edge of the dance floor with a clear view of the stage and the floor. We were seated with some of the other dancers in my company including my partners Derek and Mark as well as their dates. As Jake and I were about to sit down I hear someone calling my name from a distance

“Cameron! Cameron!” it was the director of my company rushing across the hall.

“They need you and the boys back there now! They want to have everything set and you be all ready. So GO!” I was slightly startled by her frantic words but I knew she wanted this to be perfect so I got up, kissed Jake and left with the boys.

“Good Luck babe, you’ll be great!” I heard Jake yell after me. I just nodded as I got tugged backstage to the changing rooms. I walked in to see people running crazy, glitter from costumes everywhere, things being thrown, shoes all over the floor, let’s just say it wasn’t to peaceful. Derek and Mark left to change as I made my way back to greet “my team” as I liked to call them. They consisted of the costume designer, my choreographer, my hair stylist, and my make-up artist. I had done my hair and makeup already but they were there to add the shinning touches and anything else I needed.

“Twenty minutes til Showtime people! Let’s move it!” said one of the lights crew. This may seem like a lot of time, but for a dancer who had to change her whole outfit into a very difficult costume and add my hair piece and accessories. My solo costume was a lovely silver tank top and booty shorts piece. It was solid grey with silver splashes throughout the flowing top. My trio costume was a two piece blush pink top with a brown mesh over one shoulder and the same mesh for a skirt that was a high to low. My whole stomach was exposed and it gave that look of vulnerability.  Both guys would have black pants but Mark, who “broke my heart, would be in a cream unbuttoned top, while Derek’s was in a brown unbuttoned top.

My solo was first so I quickly changed into my sliver costume and sat down as my team did their magic, adding silver sequins to the outer corner of my eyes, giving me a diamond hair pin and earrings to accent the dress. I slipped on my “paws” as they are called in the dance world. They were a type of toe pad that only covered the ball of your foot and wrapped around your toes to give the illusion that I was bare foot.
