(Counselling session with Elizabeth Bell // This counselling session is recorded with given permission)

- Good morning, Elizabeth. Welcome to our first counselling session. I am Dr. Elba.

- Morning to you, Dr. Elba. (the creaking noise of chair was made)

- Elizabeth, as this is your first counselling session, I shall go easy on you but you have to be honest in your answer.

- Yes, Dr. Elba.

- How are you feeling, Elizabeth?

- I am good. I just got myself a tea along the way.

- Does the tea tastes good?

- Better than any Shirley Temple.

- Hmm, interesting. How is your studies coming along in Stanford?

- It is good.

- I see. Let me check, you are majoring in History?

- Yes, why?

- I have seen your academic records given by your respective high school principal. You were offered a place in almost all Ivy League universities and Oxbridge. Why Stanford?

- Stanford is truly a calling to my heart.

- Were you recommended to study at Stanford?

- My former teachers encouraged me to try applying for it, but it was Mr. Matthews who told me to pursue my studies at Stanford.

- (gulping noise) Mr. Matthews, your history teacher I see. Speaking of Mr. Matthews, how do you feel about him?

- Feeling about Mr. Matthews? It is a shame he has to spend his time serving in prison. He is a great man.

- I believe you still remember why is serving time in prison, don't you?

- For the killing that poor boy (John Shelley).

- I am aware of your relationship with Mr. Matthews. When you said, "It is a shame he has to spend his time serving in prison.", what went through your mind?

- Dr. Elba, if you are trying to imply my ignorance, you are wrong. Mr. Matthews or I would personally call him, Richard is a good man with honesty at some point in my life. Just because he was deeply in love with my deceased mom, that does not mean he was using me as a way to get over her.

- Richard and I were very involved with each other. He was the man who gave me this confidence which I never had a chance of knowing before. When we first made love to each other, all we could think of was how much we deeply loved each other. Richard was my first and therefore it is wrong to shamed him as an individual.

- So you never thought of how you were being played by an older man--

- As I have mentioned, Richard is a good man despite everything that happened. Things happened at the wrong place and time. The murder he committed I would say it was a mistake and he knows this. Everything that happened to Richard before and after is already pain enough. Why add more?

- You are a strong person, Elizabeth. Despite everything, you are willing to forgive Mr. Matthews and moved on. I could see why you majored in History. Anything else you like to add before we end?

- Again, you are implying that I did a major in History because of Mr. Matthews. I took History because prior to meeting him, I was already interested in it. Mr. Matthews gave me more opportunities or the scene to broaden my knowledge in History which you can compare to any course in university. Plus there are times I wished I could contact him again as a friend. The law does not have the right to forbidden our communication as that relationship.

- Again, when you asked how I am feeling, I almost wanted to say I feel practically slammed.
