The cries of babies could be heard. The room went a little dim. I was already panting after delivering those twins. It was tiring. I could feel my life draining away. I can't die yet. Not yet. Not before looking at my babies. Not before I affirm their futures and destiny. The nurse washed them clean and wrapped them in towels before handing them to me. The doctor stood next to me, waiting patiently for me to hand over the babies, so that he can let them rest in the incubators. Their father had mysteriously went missing years ago. His whereabouts were not known and there's no way for me to track him down either. I didn't want to believe it but deep down, somehow I knew that he no longer exists in this world. He left me with twins before leaving me forever. I inhaled and took the babies. I looked at their palms and my heart sank. Their birthmark was different. Seems like I've gotten my hopes up.
One of them was a witch and the other is a half witch. Now this is very bad. Every witch hates half witches. The both groups detest each other. They have an ancient rivalry which up until now, doesn't have a clear explanation of how it all started. But if I don't put them together in the same school to be properly educated, they will end up being enemies and forced to fight each other. And of course, I cannot allow that to happen.
"Bring me a piece of paper and pen, doctor. There's someone I would like to write a letter to. She's a friend of mine."
The doctor nodded and exited the delivery room. I presume that he's off to the counter to get the things I want. A few minutes later, he returned with a paper and pen in his hands. I thanked him and begin writing my letter. The nurse took the twins and placed them in the incubators displayed at a corner.
Halfway writing the letter, I doubled over, feeling dizzy. The doctor cringed and placed a hand on my shoulder. "I think you should stop and rest. You lost too much blood during your delivery. You will die if you continue writing. You will die from too much blood loss!"
I shake my head. "The time has come. It's time for me to go." I smiled and gripped the pen tightly. "I wanted to see him again."
I completed the sentence and folded the paper up. I handed it to the doctor. He accepted it silently with a grave look. "Give this to my friend, Kristin and also those twins. Tell her to care for them."
The doctor nodded and passed the letter to the nurse, giving her instructions on how to deal with it before turning to me. "Ma'am, are you sure you don't want a blood transfusion? You may survive if you do so. The chances are high. Why not give it a try?"
"No. It's time for me to go." I placed a hand on my chest. "I can feel it coming."
Slowly, I reached up, unclasped the necklace around my neck and placed it on his hands. "Give this to the baby with only a crescent on her hand. This may help her in her future. Oh...I see her bright future. With a handsome boy beside her. Which means that it's certainly a happy ending...just like the both of us." I closed my eyes and lay my head on the pillow, slowly drifting away into nothingness.
When I wake up, I'll see you there my sweet.
Together we will enter our house and live happily ever after.
Hold my hands and look into my eyes.
Promise me we will never part.
Look upon our sweet ones.
When they learn and talk.
Pray for them 'till they are ready to join us.
With our hands clasped together, heads touching.
We stand on the grassy lands.
With smiles on our faces.
The happiest couple ever.
Our promise. This will be our promise.

The doctor shook his head and turned to the nurse who was still standing beside him with a rather confused look. The doctor repeated his instructions. "Give this to Madam Kristin and also the babies. This necklace. Place it over the baby with one crescent as her birthmark. This is her mother's last wish." The nurse nodded and slipped the letter into her pocket before wheeling the incubators away.
He took one look at the lady lying on the bed peacefully before pulling the sheets over her head. "May you find happiness in your new little world."
