Brenda’s P.O.V.

“Alright baby. I'll call you once I'm back. Love you.”, I spoke into my phone before cutting off the call with my boyfriend, Randy. We'd been dating for about a year now and I couldn't have asked for a better boyfriend. I'd had others before him but none of them could even compare to him. He was the best that I've ever had, in more ways than one.

As I shoved my phone back into my pocket, the tense silence that engulfed the SUV prior to the call, returned.

Oliver and I were on our way to our parents house for one of our occasional Sunday lunches. Isabel had flown to Florida on Friday to visit her parents and Skye was back at home trying to do her homework

Oliver had been acting moody for the entire week. He had hardly talked or hung out with me and the girls when at home. Instead, he just stayed, holed up in his room, blaring sad music with his door closed. Whenever I asked him what was wrong he would just shrug it off and tell me not to worry.

It was like he had just completely reverted back to his behaviour from when he had just broken up with Ryan. It didn't make sense though. He told me he was over him and based on his recent behavior I had started to believe him. I wondered what had changed in the past week. He was really starting to worry me. I hated seeing him this way. It made me feel so uneasy.

I turned to take a glance at him as he drove. His eyes flickered sideways to me, quickly and returned back to the road. I watched as his jaw continuously flexed and relaxed, indicating that he was biting his cheek. His hair had started to grow out and was in need of a trimming. It fell slightly across his face, hovering a little above his eye. His facial hair was becoming scruffy and he looked worn out, like he hadn't slept in days. He was really worrying me.

“What?”, he growled after awhile, his voice gruff and eyes still on the road.

“Huh?”

“You've been staring at me. What?”

“You need a haircut and a shave.”

“I know.”, he grumbled, still not facing me.

“Why won't you just tell me what's wrong with you?”, I finally asked, hoping he'd talk to me about it.

“I told you before B, Don't worry. I'm alright. Nothing’s wrong.”, he insisted.

“Really?! Are you kidding me Olly?!”, my voice began to raise in frustration. “Lately, you hardly talk to us. You seclude yourself from us and you're always looking depressed. That doesn't sound alright to me, Olly. You know I hate seeing you like this so why won't you tell me what's wrong?”

“Because there's nothing wrong! Don't you understand?! Everything is just absolutely perfect!” he turned to face me and yelled.

As we were approached the next intersection, I looked up to see a van on the perpendicular road speeding towards it, with no intention of stopping.

“Watch out!”, I screamed.

Oliver immediately slammed on the brakes, making the SUV come to an abrupt stop. It jerked both of us forward rather violently as the van sped in front of us merely scraping the front of our vehicle.
