one day before summer
James handed his exam in, thirty seven minutes into the exam. Mister Yukimura and the majority class was staring at the boy, it was a twelve page exam not including the front title page or the answer key in the back. There was a lot short answer questions worth five marks, and two long answer questions which had to be answered in full sentences. Most people were finishing up on the matching; which was more difficult than some of the short answer questions. Mister Yukimura warned that his exams were not easy and most people would go past the hour mark. "You're done?"
"Finished." James nodded before heading back to his seat, grabbing his phone from his pocket. He had to wait another twenty minutes before he was allowed to leave, him and one other student stood up at the hour mark. James was waiting in the cafeteria, his head on his bag as he slowly fell asleep. James did study for his exams, he had no werewolf issues on than Scott having to rush teach him how to control himself over the full moon. Four months later, James could hopefully survive only one full moon with his mother. He came back just in time for the second full moon in the summer.
The cafeteria was loud, people waiting for their parents or some had to wait the entire day for their bus. Owen offered James the car for the day since he had to stay at school all day plus a little more to mark exams and write report cards. Since James only had to write his exam he got the car. Him, Liam, and Mason were going to the movies, one last hang out before James was shipped to his mother's like a package.
"How the hell do you finish so quickly. You finished biology in forty minutes." Mason commented, James would correct him and say thirty-five but he didn't feel like pointing that out. His math exam took the longest, forty seven minutes.
"I don't take two minutes to each multiple choice question." He chuckled, sitting up to face his friend. Either Liam or James had told Mason truthfully about the supernatural, although he saw James die and a monster get blown up; Liam wasn't ready to tell him and since Liam had known Mason longer; James respected his choice. Liam walked into the cafeteria moments later, a glum expression on his face. His heart was racing, and it was anxiety; James wasn't sure what it was.
He tapped on his fingers against his legs nervously as he stood across from James, standing behind Mason. "James can I speak with you?" He asked, James was not the only confused one; Mason tilted his head in confusion. James and Liam had talked about their relationship about a week after Mexico, it was never official between the two. They both liked each other, they'd hang out alone together; which could have been considered dates, James' received a talk with Owen about sex. They still had to use protection to protect themselves against STI's. James explained to Owen that he wasn't having sex with Liam, he tried to use the excuse that they were just friends; but they were a little more than friends.
"Yeah sure." James nodded, grabbing his bag as he followed Liam out; saying quickly to Mason that he'd be back quickly. Liam led James out to the back of the school and Liam's heart was racing at this point. "Are you okay? I think a person without super hearing can hear your heart." He chuckled hoping he could lighten the mood but it didn't seem to work. Liam paced in front of James before speaking, James was getting dizzy just from watching him.
"I'm going to say something, don't interrupt me." James didn't speak, but he wasn't going to promise. "Okay." Liam took a deep breath before continuing. "You're going to your mothers this summer, right?" James nodded it had been brought up anytime Mason tried to make plans with Liam and James over the summer. "This summer is to decide if you stay with your mom or dad?"
"Where are you going with this Dunbar?" James asked slightly annoyed, he pushed himself off from leaning on the wall.
"I think you should live with your mother, for the summer, sophomore year, junior, senior, and never return to Beacon Hills." Liam blurted out, James remained silent. His fist were clenched at this point, nibbling on his bottom lip. "I'm not saying this just because, I'm saying this because I don't want you to get hurt again!"
"I heal!" James snapped lifting his shirt slightly up, his wound gone.
"Yeah and I were to just poke it you'd groan in pain!" Liam let out a frustrated sigh, it was true. Even after talking to Deaton, he had no clue to why James wasn't fully healing. Even after a trip to the hospital; James had test done he was perfectly fine. He just forever felt pain where the berserker impaled him. "Beacon Hills isn't safe James, I don't want you to get hurt."
"Take the bus home." James muttered before walking away towards the parking lot. Liam just watched James walk away, both boy's heart shattering. A tear streamed down James' face as he got into the car.

James was standing outside his house, it was surprisingly cold for a summer night, he was leaving in less than eight hours for his mother's house. He wasn't excited one bit and neither was his father. Although James wasn't standing in the cold air because of his mother, he was standing there because of Liam.
"Are you nervous?" Owen asked, James shook his head not looking at his father as he leaned on the fence next to his son. "Are you going to miss your friends?" James again shook his head, sure he'd miss Mason but his father wasn't referring to Mason, he was talking about Liam. "And why is that?"
"Because he's a fucking asshole." James muttered still not looking at his father. "He asked me to stay with Ella, leave Beacon Hills." James watched as a car passed by, Owen looked over at his son. Owen looked at his son's face, that was a face of a heartbroken boy. "He thinks it is dangerous here."
"It is dangerous here, but he shouldn't have asked you to leave." Owen agreed, it might have been biased but it was true.
"I guess he never really cared about me then." James mumbled pushing himself off the fence, heading back inside the house. Owen watched his son, he could see him through the window; he had just tossed his hat and jacket before disappearing.
"Or he cares too much." Owen whispered.
