Our airship landed shortly after the speech ended. As we landed some blonde boy ran past us clutching his stomach and his mouth. I overheard the blonde girl and her friend complaining about puke on somebody's shoe. I laughed and Leaned into Rose.
"Nice first day for them," I said quietly into Rose's ear, "and an amazing first impression."
"Oh cmon Em," she replied, "I bet he's nice, just easily nauseous."
"I'm just giving him a hard time, he's probably nice enough. Now cmon lets get off, I wanna explore." I smiled with excitement and hopped A little bit. I literally dragged her along.
"Ember please I know how to walk," she complained and I released her, "thank you."
"Sorry Rose, I'm just excited. Finally living the dream!" I said, looking up towards the CCT, grinning widely. We slowed up a little bit as we gawked at the size and beauty of the buildings. It almost felt as if we were in a castle. It felt even better when we realized it was our castle.
"Em, as much as I want to gawk at everything, we have to get to that announcement thingy."
"Ughhh." I groaned, "do we have to? I really wanna explore." I sounded like a stubborn child, but I didn't care.
"Yeah ember, we kinda do." Rose said like a parent, dragging me along.
"Fine," I replied with a groan, stumbling along. "Then can we explore?"
"Yes child," she answered, "we can explore after." She stopped pulling me and I started to walk normally. I heard what sounded like an explosion come from the courtyard by where the airships docked. I looked back and raised a brow, but I kept moving forward.
We arrived at the place. We filed into the middle of the crowd. I heard some crabby girl yell so I turned, but I ignored it afterward. The headmaster took a step up to the microphone.
"I'll keep this brief." He spoke.
"Already too long," I muttered to Rose and stopped paying attention. Rose rolled her eyes at me and listened for me. I stared off as I admired the architecture and size of beacon. I came back to remnant as Rose nudged me.
"Cmon Em, we're heading to the barn, that's our home for the night." She pulled my arm softly and I started walking by her side.
"All these buildings," I said, gesturing to everything around us, "and they keep us in the barn?" I sighed.
"Oh cmon it won't be that bad," Rose reassured, "it'll be just like a giant sleepover. It'll be fun." She tried to sound as convincing as possible.
"It'll be fun cause I can sleep, and I can't even enjoy that while I do it!" I complained. Rose sighed and rolled her eyes at me. Which drew a soft laugh out of me.
Rose and I walked around beacon for awhile. Chatting and wandering aimlessly. We stopped to look at things like the CCT and the courtyard statue. Eventually we made our way to the barn. Everybody was given a sleeping bag and we assorted ourselves around on the floor.
"See? Just like a sleepover." Rose said, sounding proud cause she was right. "You love sleepovers."
"Yeah, with you," I replied nervously, "not with dozens of other people my age that I don't know. They could be judging me."
"They aren't judging you, harshly at least," she assured me, "you look good, even when dressed lazy, so you'll be fine."
"Whatever you say Rose," I said softly. I was leaning up against a wall with my knees pulled up towards me, staring out at the shattered moon. I was dressed in my PJ's, fuzzy pants and a tank top.
"Cmon fire girl," Rose said with a grin, pushing me softly, "I know you're tired, but I don't think you wanna miss out on Ash over there."
Without meaning to I perked up and looked around. I noticed his friends rough housing him slightly, but I'm sure he was used to it, he is a teenage boy after all. When they stopped I looked up at him with a smile and waved. He gave me a grin with disheveled hair and waved back. His friends noticed and congratulated him, and before he turned away, he gave me a 'sorry for my friends' look.
"Ahhh young love," Rose teased with a laugh, and I shoved her softly at that.
"Shut up," I said as I started to work my way into my sleeping bag. "I'm gonna go to sleep, my mom made me wake up super early."
"You try that," she said, suppressing a laugh, "but a bomb is going to go off in 3...2...1...boom."
As soon as she finished I heard a yell. I sat up with a groan and saw the crabby girl from earlier arguing with a blonde girl. I sighed and laid back down heavily.
"I just want to get to the team selection stuff." I said with a sigh.
"It's okay Em, it'll get here eventually." She was still hiding her laugh.
"It better," I replied, my voice muffled by my pillow. I shifted in my sleeping bag and laid my head on a pillow. "I'm
Gonna try and sleep." I finished.
"You do that flame girl." Rose said, putting in her headphones and staring off. I faded asleep while listening to the sounds of those who were still awake.
I woke up to a nudge and the sound of an entire building collectively moving. Ash was softly nudging me.
"Not being creepy and watching you sleep, but you two should get up, you don't want to be late." He said.
I sat up, rubbed my eyes, and nudged Rose. "Rose wake up," I said with a yawn, "we need to get ready for today."
Rose groaned into her pillow and slowly pushed herself up. "Do I have to?"
"Yeah you kinda do." I said matter of factly. I turned to ash and gave him a smile. "We'll try and hurry so you're not late to."
"You don't need to hurry," he said, "but I'll be waiting outside." He walked out and I waved to him as he left. I got up and helped Rose up. We quickly dressed and fixed our hair and we walked out of the barn, where Ash joined back up with us.
"So we're getting teams today I think." He said, "here's to hoping we don't get stuck with awful people."
"Yeah, I hope I don't get stuck with somebody like you," I said with a grin and a giggle. "Just kidding," I continued, "you're fine."
Ash looked over at me and rolled his eyes. Rose chimed in with the joking insults.
"You don't wanna be with this one unless you love flaming temperatures. Her house is like a sauna" She said teasing me, "although I'm sure she wouldn't mind seeing you shirtless or something." That drew a blush out of both me and Ash.
"Well I mean," I said, shrugging and laughing nervously. It was a joke, but it was also kind of true.
"I'm sure everybody loves seeing my shirtless." He said with a wink, which drew an embarrassed laugh out of me. Rose laughed at my suffering.
A voice came on the intercom, it sounded like that Glynda Goodwitch lady. She said something about all first year students needing to go the cliffs. We all rushed to our lockers to grab our weapons. We were running late and behind so we jogged over to the cliffs.
When we got there, professor ozpin had us stand on these plates. He gave us a speech about how we'll be launched into the forest and we need to find some artifacts. He then said the first person we make eye contact with is our partner for the next four years. Some people panicked, others muttered, one girl shouted that she knew that's how it would happen, but I looked at Rose and pointed to our left down in the forest, and she understood. All that mattered was having Rose on my team.
Ozpin wished us luck and started to launch us off the cliff after a long discussion with a boy who was nervous about it, and I think it was the guy who threw up. I folded the blades on my tonfas and held them like Kamas. I turned and gave Rose a grin before I got launched. If I had shades to put on, I would've. I saw that blonde haired girl do it and I was kinda jealous. I laughed as I flew through the air. I hooked the handles on a tree branch and spun myself, rolling on the landing. I looked up and saw a nevermore fly above me. I unfolded the blade and put Ignis and Aestus back into their Tonfa form.
I looked back down and saw a boarbatusk 10 feet in front of me. I held still in hopes it wouldn't see me, but it did. It charged up its roll and I froze, but I dove out of the way just before it hit me. I put my back to a tree and waited for it to charge again.
I reached up and grabbed the tree branch above me. I pulled myself up as it charged, and it hit the tree and fell on its back. I dropped down, spinning my tonfas out and jabbing them both into its throat. I took a deep breath and Walked around the tree and bumped into a girl in blue.
"Oh hey," she said, "sorry about that."
I was gonna say it was fine, but then I realized what this meant.
"Wait no!" I shouted, slamming Ignis into the tree, I let go of it and it stayed lodged into the wood; "this wasn't how it was supposed to happen! You-UGH!" I sounded panicked and exasperated. This was the worst thing that could possibly happen.
"Girl calm down." She sounded slightly angry, that or she was frustrated at me.
"Calm down?" I shouted, "I can't calm down! Some girl I don't know is my partner for the next 4 years instead of my lifelong best friend!"
"Whatever," she replied, rolling her eyes. "The names Bondi, let's just grab the artifact before you lose your voice."
I sighed deeply and spoke softly, pulling Ignis out of the tree, "I'm Ember, and sorry about that, I just had a plan and I just really wanted her on my team, it's not your fault."
"Girl you're fine," she said with a soft laugh, "you're not the only one breaking out like that, you just really wanted to be with your friend. It's cool." She shrugged and walked North.
I followed behind her. "You don't seem to bothered by it, you not have anybody you want on a team?"
"All my friends went to atlas, but the military lifestyle isn't for me, I'm just taking whoever I can get, and you seem like a good option."
"Thanks," I said with a smile, "you don't seem bad yourself, yet."
"Yeah, well I didn't kill a Grimm within minutes of landing."
"That boarbatusk? They're nothing, just need to run them into something."
She shrugged and I pulled her back as she almost stepped down a mountain with fire at the bottom. There were a lot of Grimm and fire with some cut down trees. It was my time to shine.
"Hold on, I got this." I slid down the Hill, Bondi protested but it was too late. I stood right over the fire and let the heat flow through me like adrenaline. I felt faster, tougher, and stronger.
I stood as the first Beowolf charged at me. I got down low and brought my tonfas, which were pulled back on my forearms, through its neck, decapitating it. Another charged before I could reset so I had to hold its claw in between my tonfas. I slashed them down, cutting the paw. I ran at it and flipped Ignis and Aestus out and pushed them into its skull. I pulled them out and shouted at Bondi to head east and I'll meet up with her.
When I met up with her I saw her clubbing a small ursa with some kind of energy club. I watched as it hit a tree and knocked it down. I watched the Ursa dissolve and we both took a deep breath and grinned at each other. She may not be Rose, but this Bondi chick doesn't seem half bad.
"Are you crazy!?" She asked, storming over to me, "walking into so many Grimm, you could've been hurt!" She put a hand on my shoulder, "but nice job."
"Okay one, fire and heat gives me adrenaline and energy, and thanks, but that's why I ran."
"Are you sure you're not the summer maiden?" She asked jokingly with a laugh, "but cmon, the temple is just over the ridge."
Bondi and I stepped over the hill and we simultaneously gasped. There was a king Tajitu at the bottom of the ridge. We both dove backwards to avoid it as it lunged. ((Now imagine a scene in a movie or TV show where they dive on the "camera" and it goes black as they hit'))
