I took a deep breath as I stared at the inferno. I stared, mindlessly, without Hazel here, the fear finally set in. The realization of what was happening to me, to beacon, came to me, and it broke me. The fear set in. I dropped to my knees as I stared. People around me were dying, and those who weren't were being traumatized. I became paralyzed by everything around me, and then I heard more screams.
That brought me back to reality. I realized I wasn't here just to protect Hazel. I'm a huntress, I'm supposed to protect everyone. That brought me back to reality. I stood up and sprinted at the door of the burning building. I bounced off it harmlessly. Something was jamming it.
I pulled on the handle but it didn't budge either, so I started beating up on the hinges with Ignis and Aestus. Every hit growing stronger from the heat of the fire. I broke through the hinges Soon and ripped off the door, and I saw what was blocking the exit. Part of the floor of the upper floor collapsed in front of it. No one could lift it, it was on fire, and stupidly heavy. No one but me, even then, it would be a struggle.
I crouched down and put my hands under the wooden beams and lifted. They didn't budge. The people in there kept screaming. I really wished they would stop that, it would only attract Grimm. As if on cue, a Beowulf leapt at me. I swiped my arm up and cut straight through it.
I didn't have time to think about anything. I immediately turned back to the building. It wouldn't last much longer. I reached my hands under and lifted again, as much as I could. The wood slowly started to move up. I saw a little area at the bottom of the door. I lifted up a little higher, and once it got to my chest I pushed my hands underneath so I could push it up rather than pull it.
I somehow got it all up high enough for the people stuck inside to sneak out underneath it. Seven people ran out underneath. I could feel my arms start to ache as I held it up even longer. Everyone who was in there finally made it out, or at least everyone who could make it out on their own.
"There's someone still in there!" The last person out shouted. I just sighed heavily as I ducked under the wood. It crashed down behind me as I entered the inferno. I looked back and forth, looking for the last person, but at this point I wasn't sure if the fire kept me going or adrenaline.
That's when I saw him. Some random guy, laying on the floor unconscious. The people in here were probably too scared to even think about helping up. I guess that's why it's my job.
I picked the man up and held him on my shoulder. I shouldn't have been able to easily hold him, but my semblance was working miracles right now.
I turned back to the door and realized I had no way out. I looked around in a panic, everything was either covered by something or on fire. I would've had no problem with the fire, but my new friend would've.
But then I realized, the walls. They would've been weakened by the fire, and being surround by this much heat. I should've had no problem breaking my way through them. I set the unconscious guy down as gently as possible and went to work on the wall.
I repeatedly hit the wall with my Tonfa, screaming with every swing, trying to make myself hit harder, or maybe I was finally letting out the emotions from everything that'd happened. I was only making dents in the wall. I was gonna need more force to break through. I didn't have time to do it the slow way.
I took a few steps back and threw my body into the wall, and I felt it give away a little, so I did it again. The wall felt like it was close to breaking open. I stepped all the way back as far as I could and sprinted at the wall that I was working on. I dove straight through it. I came out on the other side and fell to the ground. I pushed some of the rubble and looked up, only one of the seven I saved had stayed to wait for me. I realized why, Gryphons were circling, and there was Grimm everywhere.
I quickly pushed myself up and ran back into the blaze to get the man. I picked him up and handed him to the other guy that was still here.
"Thank you so much..." he said, he seemed like all this wasn't breaking him, which I was glad for. I wonder how he would've held up as a huntsman.
"Don't mention it..." I muttered as I brushed off the dust and Rubble and grabbed Ignis and Aestus, "just get out of here...get to safety..."
"I don't have a problem with that..." he said as he carried his friend away from me. Out of the fire, and well, back into the fire.
