"Now, you will be trained separately from the Dauntless-borns, all six of you. First we will be using the knives, everyone over to the knife stations." Eric began pointing over to the stations, containing a stack of knives and a target. After a quick demonstration with Four we all picked up knives and started throwing. It was a lot harder than it looked. I couldn't get the knife to stick in the target. I kept trying but I was useless and it was making me frustrated.

"Statistically you should have hit the target at least once by now even by accident." Will says as he throws the knife landing it just below the center. I sighed and continued to no avail.

"Candor, are you blind? Try aiming for the target." Eric had come to comment on my failed attempts. I feel my cheeks heat up I know I was terrible but there was absolutely no reason to have to point it out so bluntly. I throw the knife again and surprise, surprise, I miss. I look up at Eric who was now standing next to me.
"Amateur." He mutters and sighs.
"Go get your knives." Everyone stops throwing and he gets enraged.
"Did I tell you to stop?" He shouts and everyone submissively goes back to throwing. He looks to me daring me to walk out there, and that's exactly what I plan to do. I'd rather be stabbed to death by flying knives than be factionless. So I carelessly walk out into the field and start picking my knives. I looked at Eric disinterestedly as I walked back to my station. Before I arrived there I let out a small cry of pain when I felt a knife lodge itself in my shoulder, the pain exploded throughout my arm and traveled to the rest of my body as I put down the knives at my station. Adopting a poker face I suddenly felt cold and the voices felt like they were far away.
"Oh, shit." Eric says quietly so I think only I hear.
"Sorry." Will repeats over and over again until nothing, it was all black.

I woke up with everyone looming over me. I stood up ignoring the pain in my shoulder, proving to them that I was completely fine.
"Watch yourself, a good soldier is never careless. To the infirmary initiate." I looked to Eric he had an expression that could almost pass for a mix of admirability and concern before he turned blank. I mirrored his expression thinking that the pain was making me see things. Good thing I wasn't a soldier I thought. Determined to stay and finish my training, I gripped the knife and pulled it out hissing in pain. Blood started to flow freely out of the wound dripping onto the floor.
"Good job, now you're making a mess. A mess you're going to have to clean up when you get stitched up. Four, take her to the infirmary before she dies." Eric ordered coldly and told the initiates to get back to throwing the knives. I followed Four down a maze of hallways that I was in no way going to be able to remember.

"Is he always such an asshat?" I ask and Four raises his eyebrows.
"Yeah, pretty much. You need to keep pressure on that shoulder. What you did back there was impressive, very brave, careless but brave." I look to him.
"Uh, thanks not exactly what I was going for."
"What are you talking about?" He asks confused.
"I was actually thinking I might die, I'm not Dauntless."He looked at me suspiciously
"Divergent?" he asks quietly. I scoff.
"Absolutely not."
"What are you then?" He asks as we turned into the infirmary. I didn't answer, it wasn't exactly something I wanted a lot of people to know about.
"Okay, well you need to practice or you will become Factionless." And with that he left.

I shuddered thinking about the factionless. The nurse gave me some painkillers and stitched me up. As I was leaving I walked into someone bumping my shoulder. Hissing in pain I took a step back.
"Ah, initiate thought you'd still be here." It was Eric and he was weirdly cheerful.

"Here take these and start cleaning up the mess you made." He handed me a red bucket and a cloth that looked offly like it had been used for this sort of thing often. I sighed  and wiping  up the trail of blood I had left. After I had thought he had left I started humming a song I used to hear back in Candor. Just as I thought I was done I heard someone speak from behind me.

"You missed a spot."I turned and realised Eric was still here. He must of heard me humming. I blushed and searched for the spot that he was referring to.

"I'm joking." He said, I looked at him surprised.

"What? I can't joke?" he asks and I look him in the eye trying to figure him out. Is he lying? I can generally tell but he is unusually hard to read. He seems uncomfortable.

"Are you mute Candor? Say something." Now he definitely looks annoyed. I open my mouth to say something, but decide against it. I close my mouth and look down. Eric walks up to me, lifts up my chin with a softness I didn't think was possible for him.
"I'm not an asshat." He whispers and walks off. I stand there confused, before it hits me. Four must have told him what I said. After a while I managed find my way to the cafeteria area. I spotted Will and sat next to him, unfortunately he was sitting on the same table as Christina.
"I'm so sorry Ritz, I didn't mean to hit you, are you okay?" Will attacked me with questions.
"I'm fine Will don't worry about it." I say grabbing a slice of Dauntless cake. He starts to speak but I put a hand up.
"I grew up Candor, I don't lie." I give him a small smile.
"But we all know you were never really Candor." Cristina interrupts. I don't speak and look down at my because I know it's true. I wasn't really a Candor.

"Are you a real Candor, Christina?" Will asks in my defense.

"Course I am." She replies incredulously.
"Then why are you here?" He asks.
