Essence

Chapter Eight

The blackness fades and there is a new woman sitting on the other side of Selene. She's wearing a along black silk strapless dress with a black ribbon wrapped around her arm. She has long black wavy hair that falls softly to her waist. She has a black tattoo swirling around on one half of her face. She has a large white tucked behind her ear. She also has smaller ones scattered around her hair.
"Hello sister dear did I miss anything?" The mysterious woman asks.
"No Lady Night you have not." Mother replies with a smile. Raven's mouth drops open in shock.
"Raven honey, if I've told you once I've told you a million times, you should close your mouth before you catch flies." Selene says with a smirk. Lady Night bursts into laughter.
"Oohh I like her. We chose a good savior for this realm." She says in-between laughs.
"Yes we have," Mother replies in amusement.
"Anyway we should probably explain what we mean." Night says seriously.
"You see about two decades ago there was a light elf who craves too much power, he wanted to be the king of the realm. He spent years studying ancient texts on dark magic, which is not evil by the way. The humans are just superstitious. Anyway back to the point. The elf made a deal with a demon to gain the ability to use the magic of the night. He was never meant to wield both sides of magic and there were consequences for his actions. Not only did it twist into something evil but it also threw off the balance of the world. We created you to fix it. You are the closest being alive to being our biological child and you have many gifts to prove it." Lady Night explained as Mother rubs soothing circles on the back of Selene's hand.
"Since you are so special I have you two familiars instead of one to help you control your gifts."
"I am the creator of beings with two legs and Lady Night is the creator of the animals in this realm." Mother explains to the confused Selene. Selene nods her head in understanding.
"We shall gift you with a guardian that we created together." Lady Night says as she smiles at Selene.
