They left the village after talking to Mato and didn't stop until nightfall. Now that there were three of them, they decided that they should each take shifts on watching out. If Asher and Weeko had been sleeping when the Shadow Wolves came, they wouldn't have stood a chance. Weeko volunteered to take the first watch. Asher and Kal went to sleep immediately, but after what seemed like only two seconds Weeko was shaking him awake.
"Your turn to take watch." Weeko whispered.
Asher groaned and rolled over. "I just went to sleep a few minutes ago."
"It's been three hours, now go and take your turn. I want to sleep too." Weeko said.
Asher sat up and rubbed his eyes. "Why does evil always have to attack at night?" Asher complained. He quietly got out of the tent to start his watch. He looked around and saw nothing but trees and plants. For the next two hours it stayed like that. Towards the end of his watch he caught movement out of the corner of his eye. It had come from a behind a large oak tree to his left. He stood up to go check it out. When he looked behind the tree, he found nothing. Strange. Asher could've sworn that he saw something. He must've been seeing things; he needed to get some rest. Asher turned back toward the camp to go wake up Kal.

The next day while they were riding, Kal asked, "So how did you discover your powers?"
"I was in the forest gathering when a bear came up to me," Asher explained, "it was about to attack me, I threw my basket at it and it caught fire."
"The bair?" Kal asked.
"Oh, um no the basket." Asher clarified.
"So you can set things on fire by looking at them?" Kal asked.
"I don't know, I haven't really thought about it. Maybe it's when I'm really panicked." Asher thought aloud.
"Or maybe you can just really concentrate on it." Weeko suggested.
"I'll have to try that out sometime." Asher said.
"Why don't you try it out on Necros' head?" Kal joked.
They all laughed and Weeko said, "Let's see how smug he is when his ugly face is burned off."
