While Weeko gathered her belongings, Asher needed to make a quick visit. He walked up to the hut's door and knocked. As his father opened the door and saw him, a frown came upon his face.
"Why are you here son?" His father asked.
"I want answers, how did mother really die?" Asher said. He thought he might as well be straight to the point, he did have places to be after all. His father's face darkened with despair.
"You know how she died, she died at your birth." His father said unconvincingly.
"You and me both know that you are lying." Asher said.
His father slowly backed away from the door, "I promised myself I would never speak of it again." he said; his voice cracking.
Asher pressed forwards and asked louder, "How did she die?" His father was backing into a corner, now on the verge of crying.
"No! I will not speak of her name again. Never again." Tears rolling down his face at this point. He then fell to the floor, head in his lap sobbing. Asher realized that he wasn't going to get any
answers and started to walk out the door.
"Son." His father called to him. Asher turned his head back, one foot out the door. "She would be proud of you." He managed to say before he returned to sobbing on the floor.

Weeko was already standing by the horses, their bags already packed for a long trip. Provisions, sleeping gear, basic materials for trapping, cooking, and survival essentials. Plus Weeko's bow, arrows, and daggers. The trip to Joara would take about four days, but they needed to be prepared for the beasts they might encounter, not to mention anything Necros might send their way.
"You ready to go?" Weeko asked as Asher walked up.
"Not even a little, but let's go." Asher said while mounting his horse. They rode past the edge of the village and Asher stopped. He looked back at the village where he was raised, teased, humiliated, and never left. That life was behind him now. It belonged to someone else. He looked ahead to the trail in the woods and wondered what his new life would have. He gave Weeko a slight nod and they were off.
