Chapter 2

Surprise!

The bus is so full I have to squeeze my way in. I feel very uncomfortable inbetween all of those sweaty bodies and I constantly touch my hair to make sure my green eye doesn't show.

Suddenly my head is filled with one hundred different thoughts and emotions. I close my eyes and concentrate. I manage to block most of it out and take a deep breath. I can't afford to let my guard down or I'll probably be knocked off my feet.

I'm not used to being in the middle of a mass of people. People would always avoid me wherever I go, that's why I'm not used to such an overload of feelings and it's harder to block them out.

I'm happy when the bus finally reaches my destination and I squeeze my way out again, as fast as possible. I breathe in the summerbreeze and sigh relieved.

I pick up my stuff and start walking in the direction of my new street.

It's only a mile or two out of the city and that makes me glad. I don't have a car to drive everyday.

I arrive and before me is exactly the picture I found on the internet. The picture that got my immediate attention when I first saw it.

Only this time, the picture is real.

The house is even better than I thought. It's an exotic house, it actually would fit more in a town like Sunlit Tides but I don't care. It's beautiful! It's small but that's not a problem seeing I'll live here on my own.

I walk toward the door and notice a small map of papers before it. I pick them up and curiously read the first one. It's a letter from the owner.

{ Hello, Miss Casse.

I hope you had a nice journey and that the irregular bus schedule didn't bother you too much.}

I chuckle when I read the last sentence. Late busses are clearly not unusual here.

{ Unfortunately I could not be here today to show you around and explain everything.

The papers coming with this letter are rules and instructions. Everything you need to know is in there. The papers also contain a map and some explainations of our town, Starlight Shores.

The key to the front door is in the small plastic bag inbetween these papers.

Greetings, Malinda Blake }

I rumble through the pages for a while until I find what I was looking for, the key.

I take it out of its plastic bag and take a good look at it.

A happy grin spreads across my face while I'm staring at the small key in my hand.

I put the key in the lock and turn it to the left. A click tells me the door is open.

I walk in and look around. The house is already decorated and, Oh my, it is so perfect.

There are no walls in this house, everything is in one big room.

The small bathroom is shielded by lace curtains, for the sake of privacy.

There is a kitchen in the far right corner with a cooker, a fridge and even a dishwasher and a coffee machine.

To the left, next to the bathroom is a small, cosy sofa, hanging from the ceiling! I sit down and swing a little. Next to it is a bookcase, with a Bible, some classics and some informative books.

In the left corner is the bed'room', with a comfortable double bed. A gorgeous painting from an artist from Monte Vista is hanging above it and some cute party lights to give it a cosy mood. On the bedside table is a big plant that looks kind of Asian to me, but it fits perfectly.

Next to the door, to the right, is another sofa. It's facing a TV. Next to that TV is a stereo and some CD's. And next to the sofa... My easel?!

How did it get here? Including my paint, pencils, paper and canvases? All my stuff is here. I see a brown box and I kneel down to see what's in it.

My map with drawings. Including my sketchpaper and my crayons, pens, eraser, etc.!

Everything I had back in Aurora Skies that had to do with my passion, art, is here. I even see my camera in the box, with some new, empty cards.

I'm stunned for a while and I look closer to see if it's really mine. It is. I'm so surprised, I don't even know how they got here!

I pick up my pencils and stare at them, one by one. Someone must've send them here. But who?

I take the letter from Mrs. Blake out of my pocket. No, she doesn't mention any of it.

Who would do this for me? I don't have a secret admirer, do I? No, that's very unlikely.

I left all of this stuff behind because I knew it was going to cost something to send it here. Still, someone payed this for me and surprised me with it.

Suddenly my phone rings.

I take a look at the screen and I smile. Ofcourse. Now it makes sense, I know exactly who sended this and I don't know why I didn't think of this person before.

I hit the green button and put the phone up to my ear. I grin widely when I say:

'Rico!'
