Chapter 11:
Pain
Thursday
'You guys coming?' Tae shouts. She's standing at the road, waving irritated.
'Just a sec!' I call from the building's exit. I'm looking for my phone in my bag but I can't find it.
'Actually, I-' I turn around fast when I hear someone talking and that makes him bump into me. All his stuff is on te ground.
'Damn it, Kam.' Mario sighs.
'Gosh, sorry.' I say. I help him collect all of his pencils. He looks sadly at a pen that's broken now.
'Oh, sorry!' I rush out. 'I didn't mean to... I'll buy you a new one okay?' I say nervous. He chuckles. 'It's okay, Kamira. I got three of these at home.' He smiles at me. 'It was an accident, you don't need to worry.' He's a good actor but I can read him, and I know he's irritated.
'Err...' I don't really know what to say.
He looks at me, friendly. 'Kam, it's alright.' He chuckles. 'Okay..' I say. Someone else wouldn't have noticed his irritation and anger towards me, so I don't want to look suspicious.
'Ehm, are you coming with us?' I ask, changing the subject.
He shakes his head. 'I'm headed to a friend's.'
I nod. 'See you later.'
He smiles and pulls me in for a hug, wich surprises me. 'Good luck with the assignment, you two can kick some ass.' He says and walks away.Woah. This guy is confusing me. He really meant what he said but a few seconds ago he was still so angry. I shake it off and walk over to Tae.
'Took you long enough.' And then she's chuckling. 'Looks like someone's interested in you.' She says, with a subtle nod towards Mario.
'Wha-' but she stops me. 'Tut tut, you're just in denial, I get it. No talking about it now.'
I groan and she stars laughing. 'Come on.' She pulls me with her. We walk for ten minutes when we get to her dorm.
'Wow.' I say. 'That's one fancy dorm.'Before me is a big, white house. It looks like it's shining in the sunlight. It is huge and it looks really elegant.
She grimaces. 'The fanciest in town. Wait 'till you see the homecinema.' I look at her in disbelief. 'You gotta be kidding me.'
She shakes her head and chuckles.
Mario's parents are kinda... Well, they have a fortune. So yeah, if he wants a homecinema, he gets one. Barbie and I are just lucky enough that we can use it.'
I chuckle when I hear that nickname. Tae has a roommate that loves pink and has long, blonde, straight hair.
'This dorm also belongs to his parents.'
'How much did it cost to get a room in here?' I ask.
'Quite some.' She grins. 'My mom paid. She said I needed something comfortable to live in. She has enough money anyway.' Tae shrugs.I'm jealous. So jealous. I will never be able to afford something like this. Who knows, if I was born normal, my grandparents would not have abdicated my parents and maybe I would live in something like this too. Maybe I would be in a fancy university, studying something fancy. Like, law, or medicine.
But instead, I had spent five years of my life struggling to get enough money to get out of my hometown. All of that to come here and work in a supermarket, still struggling with money.
Tae snaps me out of my worries when she waves her hand before my eyes. 'Hellooo, Kamira. Where are you? We got an assignment to doo.' I shake my head. 'Right.' I say and I follow her inside. We got our first assignment in Art class monday and Tae and I paired up.I think she must've seen the look on my face when she was talking about all the money her mom has, because she just leads me right up the stairs instead of showing me around here first.
We go into the room she shares with Barbie.
'I know, it's... Dormy.' She says. It's a pretty big room with two single beds and two desks in it. The wallpaper and the floor are a boring grey and there is one big fireplace. I immediately know wich one is Barbie's side of the room, the bed has pink covers and a her bedstand is white with pink accents. Also, there is a carpet on the floor that looks like a pink butterfly. Her laptop is there, it's pink. Also her other decorations are mostly pink and her shelf is filled with make-up.
I chuckle and Tae smiles. She notices I'm staring and chuckles too. 'Told you.' She walks over to her bed and I look around. She has a cozy small red carpet and there are several posters on the wall.
'You like Michael Jackson?' I smile and she nods.
On her shelf there are some books, CDs and a camera.
