Chapter 3:
Rico
26 years earlier.
Mr. and Mrs. Casse were not two very ordinary people. They were known very well as the children of two very wealthy families. They were brought up very strict and religious, they would go to church every Sunday and obeyed and respected their parents.
They met in high school and married ten years later when they both had successfully graduated from college and had found their first job.
Cyla Ragen was a beautiful young lady with style. A very expensive style, might I add. Her parents were very old-fashioned and they did not allow their daughter to be a crazy teenager, that would be a scandal to their family. She was not allowed to sleep with a man before marriage and was to marry a rich man, worthy for their family. The Ragen family owned a big car company, this allowed Cyla to always live in the wealth and luxury she wanted.
James Casse, a young, promising man, noticed the young lady soon.
His parents were known very well because of their wealth and relations with members of the royal family. James never had to work for his money, he'd rather spend his parents's.
James was very popular. Young, wealthy and handsome was he, and a heartbreaker.
He partied a lot and had many women and girls begging for him.
When James first met Cyla Ragen, he made it his new mission to steal her heart and virginity. And he did.
His parents approved for once of his choice in women and were determined to make him marry this member of the wealthy Ragen family. From the other side, Cyla's parents were also very happy with the new relationship.
James, who actually didn't want to marry anyone in his whole life, respected his parents and obeyed their wishes after all when he asked Cyla to be his loving wife.
They went to live in Aurora Skies, a town in the north. A little bit further from their hometown, but not too far, so they could visit their parents every week.
They were soon known in their new town and they were adored by the community members. The priest knew them well and everyone thought of them as the ideal couple. And so they seemed to be.
Nine months after their marriage, a baby boy was born in the Casse family. A cute, sweet and perfect little boy. The happy couple named him Henrico, after his father's father. But everyone just called the little guy 'Rico'. Rico Casse was worshipped by everyone, no one could stand those lovely eyes and that cheeky, smiling face.
He learned to be a polite and sweet boy.
Cyla loved him very much, she was proud to be his mother and once again, they were the perfect family.
But they really weren't. James wasn't used to being with one woman for longer than a month. And after three years of marriage he started to feel too old. He didn't want to be a gentle, loving father and husband anymore. He missed his parties and his old friends. He missed going crazy on friday nights and waking up the next morning, hung over, in a stranger's bed.
Don't take it wrong, he loved Cyla. But she was so sweet and strict.
That's when their fights started and James came home later every night..
Love, relief and happiness were all over the place when their second baby was born, five years after Rico. A beautiful girl they named Kamira.
Cyla was over the moon with her lovely girl, she had red hair, like her dad, and little blue eyes like every baby.
She showed her off to everyone. And hoped that this new addition to the family would help her marriage.
But all these happy emotions were replaced by confusion, disbelief and worries when after her first summer, it was clear that little Kammie was different from everyone else.
When her eyes changed colour, they both changed different.
One green and one blue.
Mrs. Casse was in shock. Rumours started spreading and soon, the family lost their good reputation. This was a scandal.
But why? Kamira hadn't done anything wrong.
That's because these people were all the same, the sort of people who don't like people that are different from them.
The kind of people who think the best of theirselves, and everyone who's different is below that.
The kind of people who look at you with a disgusted look if you're walking hand in hand with a person of the same sex.
The kind of people that we call racists, because they hate people with other races and skincolours.
The kind of people that we call bullies, because they pick on the weak people and make their lives a living hell.
Only because they are actually jealous or afraid.
Cyla was afraid of her baby girl. She didn't know what to do.
She payed her school, made her meals, but avoided her as much as possible.
She was ashamed and humiliated. This was a scandal.
Her parents abdicated her and left her alone.
She started seeking comfort in cheap alcohol and food while James kept on seeking comfort in other women.
But not everyone turned their backs on Kamira.
Big brother Rico was convinced that she was a little angel that God had given to him take care of. He learned her how to walk and talk, and she was an unusual fast learner.
Both of them were very clever children, even though their parents didn't want to see it.
Rico loved his little sister so very much. He played with her whenever he could. He would put her to bed with a story or a song and he would wake her up in the morning for breakfast. He would tell her what he had learned at school and she would always listen with a look of curiousity, disbelief and admiration on her face. Her brother was her hero and probably the only reason why she is still alive.
