Cole’s POV

“Maggie…I have cancer, and if I don’t go get treatment as soon as possible…it could spread.” I said, with teary eyes.

Maggie immediately started crying. She didn’t say anything. She just covered her face and sobbed.

I got up to get a box of tissues, but she grabbed my wrist.

She stood up, and hugged me.

“Cole. I’m so sorry.” She sobbed into my chest.

“Everything is going to be okay. I’m going to get the treatment and I’ll be fine.” I said, letting go of her and looking into her eyes.

She just stayed silent.

“Cole, no matter what happens, I’m going to be with you through this. I promise. I won’t leave your side!” She said after a while.

“But, Maggie…that could take a long time. You need to be back at the end of July.”

“No! I’ll stay with you!” She said, with more tears streaming down her face.

“You don’t have to-“ I started.

“I know I don’t have to! I NEED to!” She said, hugging me.

“Thank you. Thank you for everything, Maggie. You don’t know how much you actually mean to me.” I said, hugging her tighter.

She backed away from the hug, and looked at me.

“Cole…you mean more to me than anything. You know that right?”

I smiled.

“I do now.” I said, sitting back down on the couch.

Maggie smiled, and sat down beside me.

Maggie’s POV

I can’t believe this. Out of everyone on this earth…my best friend has to have cancer. I guess I should just be praying that the treatment is going to work.

“So…when do you go in to get treatment?” I asked, nervously.

“Uh…day after tomorrow.” He shrugged.

“Why not tomorrow? The sooner you get the treatment, the sooner you’ll get better…right?”

“Not always. There’s actually that 50/50 chance that the cancer already spread, and it might be too late.” He said, getting up.

“What? Cole! You need to go in for treatment right now!” I said, getting up, and pushing him towards the door.

“I can’t! My appointment is day after tomorrow! The doctor’s have to treat other patients too!” He said, as he spun around and faced me.

I felt my eyes start to water.

“No…don’t cry, Maggie. I always hate seeing you like this. It kills me to see you cry.” He said, as he wrapped his arms around me.

I didn’t hug him back. I didn’t do a thing. I just stood there. I stood there in shock.

“You know…chances are, I’m going to survive this. A lot of people do.” He whispered into my ear.

“But a lot of people don’t survive if they don’t get treatment on time.” I whispered back.

“Have faith in me.” Cole said, letting go of me and wiping my tears away.

“I do! I’m just worried, Cole. How long have you been diagnosed with it?”

Cole looked down at his feet.
