"Like a date?" {Chapter Ten}

Cody’s POV

I was so bored. I need the doctor to come out and tell us Maggie is perfectly fine and that she can come back today. The paramedic said she might have head damage. I am really worried about her. Just as stood up to use the washroom, a doctor came out and started talking to Maggie’s parents. I walked over.

“Is Maggie going to be alright?” I asked.

“Yes. She is going to be just fine. She’s unconscious right now. But she should wake up any minute now.”

“Well…can’t you just shake her and wake her up?” I asked.

He laughed. “No. That doesn’t wake her up. This is her second time blacking out today. She needs to wake up on her own.”

“When can I see her?” I asked.

“As soon as she wakes up. I’ll come get you guys when she does.” He flashed a quick smile, and walked away towards another awaiting family.

I sighed. She needs to wake up…like now.

I looked over at Cole. He had his head down. Man…maybe I was too hard on him. I walked over to him, and sat down next to him.

“Hey.” I said quietly.

“What do you want? Come over here to make me feel guiltier? I didn’t mean to trip her, okay?”

“No. Cole…I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have snapped at you like that. I don’t even know you. I’m sorry man.” He looked up at me and a weak smile formed on his lips.

“Yeah man. It’s ok.” I smiled, then chuckled. I shook his hand and went to sit back down by Alli.

“Do you think she’s going to be ok? I’m worried. I’ve only known her for not even a week…but we act like best friends who met 10 years ago.” A tear rolled down her cheek.

“Alli, she’s going to be ok. The doctor said she’s going to be just fine. I just talked to him.” I said, smiling. I wiped away her tear, and pulled her into a hug. I hated seeing my sister cry. It made me feel terrible.

“When can we see her?” She asked.

“The doctor said she could wake up any minute now. He said we can see her when she wakes up. But…know what?”

“What?” She asked, pulling out of the hug.

“I think we should let her family see her first.”

“Yeah. You’re right. Maggie’s a strong girl anyways. She could get through anything I bet.” A smile formed on her lips.

“Yeah. I bet she could.” I smiled.

Just then, a doctor rushed out to talk to a different doctor. They couldn’t have been talking about Maggie…right? I got up from my chair and decided to walk over enough just to hear the conversation.

“Doctor, she should have woken up by now! This is not normal. Her head appears to be bleeding again.”

A shocked face appeared on the doctor’s face, then he rushed into the room where Maggie was.

I couldn’t take it any longer. I rushed past the door that said

‘Employees Only’ and ran to the room Maggie was in.

“Son, you can’t be in here. I have to ask you to leave.”

“Just wait one second! PLEASE.”

He sighed. “Fine. You got 5 minutes, kid.” I smiled.

“Thank you!” I rushed past all the doctors and made my way to Maggie’s side.
