Right before I got up to leave, Jennifer found me. "Oh my actual god." She said with a serious look, "You didn't tell me your absolutely amazing date was Michael Clifford, lead guitarist for 5 Seconds of Summer!" She said. I rolled my eyes and held my head up on my hand.
"Well right now, he's Kimberley's date." I said gesturing to the two as they danced together. "I thought it would be great to have him as my date. Turns out he's an asshole, and I was too naive to see it before we got here."
"That sucks." Jennifer said before she got up, "You don't care if I dance with him do you?" I rolled my eyes and waved her off. Everyone else was, why not? This was the actual worst night of my life.
I finished my cup of punch and tapped my fingers on the table. I wanted to go, but Michael was my ride. I didn't want to walk home.
"Hey!" Michael said sitting down across from me. I looked at him, wondering if I should ignore him.
"Hey." I grumbled, "Having fun?"
"Nope, I'm a bit bored. My date sort of abandoned me for the punch bowl." He said picking up my cup.
"Oh I wonder how that feels." I said crossing my arms.
"I know, it really sucks." he said, "Especially when I really thought she was a pretty cool chick, and that maybe she wanted to ditch and go get some coffee or something."
"You're a dick." I said getting up. I walked toward the door. I made it outside, but that's as far as he let me go. He grabbed my wrist and turned me around.
"I know I am." he said shrugging, "And I've been a shit-tastic date. So just go ahead and hate me."
"I want to." I said. I wanted to cry, but I wasn't going to let him see that. I would probably be the only girl he's ever seen crying because they were sad and not because they were overjoyed to see him.
"But?" He asked giving me a sideways look, like he knew I wasn't really upset about him abandoning me.
"There is no but, Michael." I said rolling my eyes, "You really suck." I jerked my hand free. He laughed and followed me.
"You actually aren't the first person to tell me that." He said. I could hear him getting closer, and then he was walking next to me. "At least let me drive you home."
"Nope." I said shaking my head, "I try avoid car ride with jerks like you."
"Is that why this is your first date?" He asked. I stopped walking and he let out a long breath. "Okay...I didn't mean that."
"What did you mean then?" I asked.
"Look, I already said I was sorry, Naomi." He said looking away from me.
"You actually never said you were sorry, you just agreed that you're a dick." I said seriously. He shoved his hands in his pockets and blew a large breath of air from his cheeks.
"Okay, then I'm sorry." He said. He didn't sound very sorry. I wasn't going to accept it, but he went on, "I'm sorry for dancing with other girls, and letting you sit alone at a table to watch. I didn't realize it was that big of a deal until your friend came over and told me."
"Jennifer told you?" I asked frowning. Michael shrugged and I walked over to a bench nearby. He didn't sit down next to me, but he stood in front of me.
"I thought you looked bored. I was trying to be cute, but apparently I came off like a douche." He said kicking a rock by his foot. "Look, I really thought maybe you were someone I could....I'm just really sorry okay?" He sat down next to me and looked at me.
