I was standing outside the Hokage's office with a towering mound of papers and scrolls in my arms: everything that we had on the Kisei Genjutsu and the Taihi Ittai.
Kakashi was having a meeting with the village elders, which was running far longer than he had planned, and I was positive that my arms were going to fall off. For the first ten minutes, the load didn't feel too heavy, but now after a full thirty minutes of standing around, I was sure that my shoulders were going to pop right out of their sockets.
The door finally opened and the two elders shuffled out painfully slowly. It took all of my self-control to not rush in past them. I strolled into the office and plopped all of the intel onto Kakashi's desk.
He rubbed the back of his neck, "I'm really sorry. They're still nagging me about how my carved face on the monument has a mask on. 'You can still carve your face into, it's not too late.'"
I started to laugh at his impression of an old lady's voice, but then I caught myself and turned it into a hacking cough. "Well, while they were nagging you in here, my arms were going numb holding all of this paperwork out there." I gestured to the huge pile of it that was now coating his previously clean desk. "I grabbed all of the files that you asked me to. It took a couple of days because several of them were being held in secure ANBU compounds, but I think that this is everything."
"I hope that's everything, I don't think that you could fit any more papers on my desk. So, where do we get started?"
"I read through all of them already and took notes so I think that it would be best if you read them yourself and then got back to me when you're finished. It will probably take you the better part of the day so I'll leave now so that you can get to it."
Kakashi sank further into his chair with a sigh, "I guess so." He looked up at me, "Where do you find the time to get this much done? I mean, you have your normal workload which is enough for two people, and then you retrieved, read through, and sorted all of these scrolls all by yourself. I don't think that the village could run without you."
"Flattery won't get you anywhere, Kakashi."
"I had no ulterior motive, if that's what you're implying. I simply can't believe how much you get done." I allowed myself to feel a little bit of pride at what he was saying, I'm pretty good at what I do.
"Well, thanks, then. Good luck with the reading, but I'm warning you, it's pretty dry."
Kakashi looked up from the scroll that he had started to open and I could swear that he was smirking under his mask, "Well, that was almost kind. It's a relief that you're starting to become slightly less abrasive."
I was appalled because he was right. I was becoming much nicer towards him, "I have no idea what you're talking about. I simply promised that I would stop reminding you of how much I hate you for what you did during every conversation, remember? Don't read into it too much because I definitely still hate you."
Kakashi just laughed, "Well it's good to know that you weren't abducted by aliens or anything like that. You're still Kaiyo."
I just glared at him and stomped out of the room. I was getting pretty angry at myself; it was getting harder and harder to hate Kakashi when he acted like a completely different person than the one who had refused to attend his own father's funeral. I was getting far too comfortable around him.
