Firehouse Dog Fanfic | The Dogpatch Family | The Next Few Weeks
Week 1
Over the next week, nothing major happened – the days went on as usual, and school work kept Amber busy. Since the day she put up those flyers in an attempt to find Dewy's owner, she really has been trying to do better in everything. Her emotions have even gotten better, which means the relationship with her father has definitely improved since the day Uncle Marc and the Chief were taken away from them.
Currently, she was sitting on her bed and revising on everything she had blatantly ignored over the last couple of months. An important test was to be given very soon. Luckily, not all of the quizzes that had been done in class were counted towards the final mark, they were merely given for the teacher to see where you were at (progress-wise). After speaking to her teachers yesterday and more or less explaining that she was trying to get back on her feet – they were actually going to give her the chance to boost her marks back up, especially since college acceptances were literally around the corner.
Normally teachers wouldn't do this, but they knew exactly what she was like before the death of Uncle Marc and the Chief – she was the smartest girl in class, and they understood her brief period of estrangement from the course work. But they could only help if she was getting seriously back into school work.
Her teachers wanted her to complete an essay for each class – it may sound like a lot, but she kept in mind that this was to boost her marks up – she may hate essays with pure passion, but she always did very well on them so complaining was limited.
It had been a few days since the tunnel collapse and she hasn't seen Masen at school the past two days, and she knew why. His mom was being made to take it easy for the next couple of days and even then, Amber still hadn't given him an answer yet to his admission at the lake.
Her pen stopped for a moment, hovering inches from the page as her mind began to wander ... again. It kept doing that whenever Masen's name fluttered past her ... she still couldn't decide what to do. She knew he was a great guy, that was obvious but it wasn't him that was the trouble ... it was her. Like she thought before – what if this new relationship didn't work? What would happen then?
Amber just didn't want to be broken down anymore, especially after all the shit that been happening these days.
The sound of her video game station sounded, making her blink – snapping her out of the inner mind. Looking over to the machine, she couldn't help but let out a light chuckle, shaking her head with bewilderment – the same feeling she felt the night when Dewy was brought home. Dewy was lying on the floor with a game controller in front of him, his paws on the joysticks as he played the game – a game that included fast cars.
'That dog is one strange, mutt.' Amber thought to herself with another shake of her head, looking down at the paper in her lap again before continuing with the homework.
There was still A LOT to do.
...
At the Dogpatch Firehouse the next night; everyone was asleep since it's passed midnight ... and during the week. Because they were firemen, it meant a lot of sleeping where they worked – so the entire second floor was dedicated to the continuous nights they had to stay. But tonight, however, there was a new bunkmate with them.
Dewy.
Because Dewy was to be the new Mascot of Engine 55 from now on; there were going to be times when he stays with them at the Station. Amber didn't seem to mind too much, especially right now with the amount of school work she needed to catch up on.
