"I want a perfect body, I want a perfect soul...I want you to notice when I'm not around."

She debated whether she really needed to go to school. A lot of people made it as high school drop outs. Certainly she could.

She thought about it as she got ready. By the end, she knew she couldn't. She didn't have enough talent for it.

The music blasted in her earphones as she brushed her teeth. She could barely keep her eyes opened. She debated once again whether it was all worth it. Maybe she could fake being sick.

"Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me. No more."

She loved listening to dance music in the morning. It woke her up. Today, it was the Haddaway's greatest hit. She bobbed her head slightly to the beat.

She took the hairbrush and started to pretend that it was a microphone. Hopefully, her sister wouldn't barrel into the bathroom and ruin her groove.

The song ended just as she exited the bathroom. Her room was still dark. What could she wear today? Comfortable or cute?

"When you were here before, couldn't look you in the eye."

She loved this cover of Radiohead's "Creep". It was just the right amount of soft vocals and light guitar. It sounded like the girl was there in her room, singing.

The soft singing was still ringing in her ears as she left her bedroom. She decided comfortable was best for such a muggy Monday morning.

Her sister was fixing two croissants in the kitchen when she entered.

"Finally Donnie. You took your sweet time, huh?" Her sister said, handing Donnie a croissant.

Donnie accepted it and took a huge bite. She wished she could savor it, but she had no time. She had taken quite awhile in the bathroom and she needed to leave for school soon.

She dashed around like a ballerina. Graceful and poised. She grabbed her book bag and coffee. Her rushed dance was fluid and exact.

And then she was out the door. She paused her music, so she could listen to some more in the car. What would a car drive be without music?

It would be nothing.

Donnie was off for another dreadful day of school. The only thing she looked forward to was the fact that she could bring her headphones out after school. It's the only thing that kept her going.
