It was most likely an overreaction on her part but she did not take it as a joke. She was beyond frustrated and irritated at that little rat had texted her crush and confessed her undying love to him. The sincere look on Derrick's face and his friends that were laughing their heads off. And the whole rejection made it worse. She dreamed that there was a chance between them but now? She didn't even think she could get up from her bed. She felt too down. She turned up the volume of her music.

The soft piano of Tenth Avenue North's "Worn" began playing. Oh how she wanted to skip it because the tender emotion in this song would probably make her weep in her vulnerable state. But she still couldn't bring herself to even lay a hand on the skip button. The song was too pretty to skip. The piano and the soft vocals were perfect for her right now. Yes, the song was sad but it also had a huge helping of hope in it as well.

She sat quietly in her room with her earphone stuck in her ears. The only sound was the music filling her ears. No one disturbed her. It was her and the silence of her room.

"Hello darkness my old friend." The deep chilling voice sang. She loved this cover of the astounding song by Simon and Garfunkel. Disturbed did pretty well with it. They captured the dark tone the original portrayed. And it had an excellent build up.

As the song continued a knock came upon her door. She took an earphone out to make sure she had heard correctly.

"Come in." She said.

The door opened and her mom entered her room.

"Hon, a boy is at the door asking to see you."

Donnie paused the song and sat up. A boy at her door? Who could it be? Could it be Derrick? Maybe he realized that they were meant to be together! Okay, she might be too hopeful.

She got up from her bed, wanting to investigate this situation.

Sitting down in her living room was the boy she didn't want to see. The boy she had come to resent strongly in such a short amount of time. She still desired to have the ability to melt things with her eyes. But alas, the world would not let it be.

Nick was casually dressed in cargo pants and a graphic tee. His head was lowered and when he looked up, he resembled a dog with the tail between its legs and everything.

"Uh hey Donnie." He spoke casually, scratching the back of his head.

She stopped in her tracks. Narrowing her eyes at the little weasel. This must be some other prank. He acts innocent and begs her for forgiveness to have it be slammed into her face later on. She knew it. It's what people were like. Lying and manipulative.

"What are you doing here?" She asked trough clenched teeth.

He continued to scratch the back of his curls. He looked at a loss for words. As if the words would were like acid in his throat. They would burn if they came through his mouth. But he had to say them. He cocked his shoulders back a bit to give him a bit more confidence.

"Donnie, it was wrong of me to take it that far. I'm a jerk but I don't want to hurt anybody. I'm sorry for what I did. And I hope you can forgive me. It's a lot to ask but I just had to get this off my chest."

She was surprised by his words and their sincerity. She could look past people and usually tell lies from truths. He was being honest. More honest than she had ever expected from him.

But she was not ready to forgive him.

"I appreciate you coming down here. I'm not quite ready to forgive you but thank you."

She eyed him as he stood up. His puppy dog look went away and was replaced with a emotionless stare.

"We got off on the wrong foot Don. I feel as if we would be better friends than enemies. Think about it."

With that, he walked back out of her house.
