"You'll never change the way I am."

"He apologized and he's extending a hand of friendship." Jane said.

Donnie nodded. "Yes, I am aware of this. But I just don't know if him and I are a good pair. We would fight constantly."

"How would you even know if you've never tried?" Jane reasoned.

They had been discussing the topic for a while. Each had their own argument. The only thing no one knew was Donnie was really considering giving in and trying to be friends.

Donnie laid her head on the table to think of a rebuttal. But none came.

And that was the end of the discussion. She knew what she was going to do.
------
The lunch room was brimming with loud kids trying to out shout each other. Though Donnie could hear barely any of it due to her earphones. She was listening to Staind. A much more pleasant thing to fill your lunch with.

She was in the middle of eating her sandwich when a person across from her.

Her eyes were now on the a mop of curls. He gave her a closed mouth smile as he set his stuff down.

She paused the song and took her headphones out. She smiled back at him.

"Hey Donnie." He said.

"Hey." She replied.

There was silence for a while. They ate quietly for a few seconds before she couldn't stand it any longer. She carefully set down her sandwich. Her mind reeled with possible ways to express what she wanted to say. After an eternity of fighting with herself, she decided to wing it.

"I accept your apology and forgive you." She said.

Nick stopped eating and looked at her.
"Good good." He said and took a huge bit of his food. Hopefully to drown out anything stupid that could possibly leave his mouth.

"And," she continued, "I agree. I think we should get another chance to be something different. I wouldn't mind having a friend. I hate people but it does get lonely sitting here."

He chucked a bit, "Yes, I presume the garbage cans aren't very talkative."

She giggled. The doubt that filled her mind about them being friends was chipped away. She could feel hope for a new friend.

"Friends?" He extended his hand to her.

She took his hand and shook it firmly.
"Friends."
