The rest of the day was spent at the outdoor mall, to be more specific, the rest of our day was spent at Barnes and Nobel. We pushed two tiny tables together in the Starbucks and sipped coffee or frappes. Yes, basic white girls. Loral was even posting a picture of all our cups. I'm laughing at this thought. "What so funny?" Loral asked.

"Oh-ohkay I usually hate stereotypes, but to be a hypocrite, we are basic white girls right now." I said. Everyone glanced at each other and then at the Starbuck cups. We all laughed in unison. I giggled flipping a page in a John Green book. Loral was looking at a Pagan spell book. Cassie and Emerson were looking through some book about aliens.

The thought of the vampire was not pushed through my mind. In fact, I think I am scared for life. It just doesn't seem real. Emerson doesn't even believe me. I don't blame her. I did not want to stay in my house all day. I know everyone sitting at this table wants to talk about it. There is nothing to talk about. I don't even know if what I saw was real.

Loral abruptly closed the book and grabbed my arm. Despite my protests she dragged me to a corner of the book store, still near the coffee shop. "Quin, if vampires exist. What if the magic we've done actually worked...? I mean if you think about we had success." Loral says. I pressed my lips together. For about the past year Loral and I have bought a few Pagan spell books. We just thought it would be fun to do, not that we believe it would work or to make fun of the religion itself.

Everything we brushed off as coincidence. We only did spells like for protection, success, healing, and money. I guess if I think about it some worked in their own way. Our biggest success is when we came before tests we would do a spell on success and well we always succeeded. I got the highest score in my school for the SAT. We don't actually believe though that any would work at all. A lot of the spells we tried did not work.

"It's possible..." I mumbled.

Loral pulled her necklace from her shirt. We all have a leather necklace with a silver animal or insect charm attached to it. Loral and I spelled them together for protection. It was the first spell we did and we handed them out to everyone. Loral has a dragonfly; Emerson has a Turtle; Cassie has a dove; Loral's boyfriend, Brayden has a Fox; and I have a bat.

"What if your necklace actually protected you? What if it summoned an Angel?" Loral says. As a habit I reached up wrapping my hand around my necklace. The metal was cold in my palm.

"It's possible..." I said. Loral's smile grew bigger.

"It feels like we are taking place in all the books we have ever read. All the things we have always dreamed about." Loral was getting excited.

I looked at her wearily. I remember the pain of fangs piercing my neck and the vampire's taunting voice. I always romanticize vampires. I imagined becoming friends with one or dating one... Actually feeling what it's like to be bit and have my blood be extracted from my system. I don't want any of that.

"This stuff can be dangerous Loral... we should just stick with what we are doing." I said.

She sighed. "I know; I don't want to hex or curse anyone. It's just good to know this stuff is actually working now. Well there is always..."

"No." I said immediately. Loral has a lot of people she does not like. I don't want to mess with anything dangerous. Like the contract says. If one of us gets dragged into something messy in this world now we are all dragged into it. Loral giggles skipping off back to the table. I had to watch her for rest of the time to see if she wasn't going to by a book about cursing or hexing people.

We mostly just wondered around for rest of the day before we split up and went home. I had to wash the blood off my sheets and worked on the homework I never did. I picked Loral up from her house to go to school in the morning. She had her Monday tired glare on her face. I smiled unlocking the car as she threw her bag in the back seat and got in.
