Water is life. A necessity for most living creatures and sacred to many different faiths.
The Vikings and Scandinavians believed that water was a primeval cosmic force welling up from the depths of Nifheimer. All rivers and streams connected a cosmological structure of mythical rituals that one needed to cross to reach a certain destination, be it the initiate, the Shaman himself, or a deadman walking, awaiting his return to Valhalla. It is because we all come into the world through the waters of the womb, that the Nords believed we must journey over water to return to the well-spring of life.
To the Christians, water represents life as well. The phrase "Water of Life" is usually used in reference to the "Holy Spirit", or to give someone the power of its eternal source. Water is mentioned throughout the bible over 700 times. Blessed water is still used to anoint those who enter a church or when welcoming a new child to faith. From Egyptian to Sumerian, Islam to Hinduism, even Judaism to Shinto, water is a sacred purifier and is used for various rituals and in places of worship.
In spellcrafting, water is used in many of the same ways. It is believed that water collected from fountains can be a source of fertility, youth and rejuvenation. Also, a well can be a home to spirits who can grant wishes. Even rivers are known as a source of life while still symbolizing our inevitable death. Lakes house a variety of monsters and supernatural beings.
Peace Entreaty Spell - This spell can be performed when you are fighting with a loved one and want some peace of mind and clarity, a fresh start.
Ingredients: a gentle falling rain, a charm that represents you and your loved one (an object related to the person you love, an object they love, or a mystical symbol only you understand), water taken from a natural running source, collected on a new moon, in a jar or container, a pearl.
Ritual: The beginning of your rituals should somehow call upon the four corners, more precisely; the four elements. You represent the Spirit. I've given one example of the Norse tradition in (1.3) Eir, but how you choose to call and set up your circle is up to you. But remember, this spell needs to be performed when it's gently raining while it is cleansing and nourishing the earth.
Anoint the charms and pearl by placing them in the jar of collected running water. Say some words about your intentions. "Peace and honour are surely made, our hopes and dreams will never fade." Meditate on the words and vow to always remember this proclamation of peace in difficult times.
Return the water back to a flowing source and peace will be restored between you and your loved one and peace will become a friend that you cherish for eternity as long as you never break your vow.
