Lost and Insecure
You found meOh no. Oh no. This is not good. I check my watch again. I was supposed to be at my meeting by 9:45 and it was 9:29 right now. I've been to Lambeau hundreds of times for Packer games, how could I get this lost in a place I considered a second home.
If I was late for this meeting, I surely wouldn't get the job. I planned on making a good impression and being early but at the point I would be lucky f I even made it on time.
I looked down corridor after corridor. But I could not find the Public Relations wing. It was hauntingly beautiful to see the stadium this empty. I've never been here when it wasn't filled with loud fans tossing back beers, all bound together for the love of football.
Why wasn't there a map anywhere? I was getting frantic now, running from hallway to hallway just trying to find the right room. My chances were getting slim as I was running out of hallways.
"Can I help you?" A deep mans voice asked.
"Actually, yeah can you-" I turned around and completely lost my train of thought. My jaw dropped but I quickly closed it. "You're Aaron Rodgers," I said pointing at him.
"Yeah that's me. And you are?" He asked.
"I'm Gracelyn," I stuttered out. I watched this man play football for years, never imagining I would get to meet him.
"Nice to meet you Gracelyn. Are you lost?" He asked. He was standing right in front of me. I had to look up to see his eyes. I had no idea how tall he was or how bright his eyes were in person.
"Ummm yeah. I have a job interview in the Public Relations room. Do you know where that is?" I asked nervously. He took the sheet of paper I was holding in my hand that had which took I was looking for written on it. He nodded.
"Yeah, come on I'll take you there," he said. He started walking in the opposite direction I had been going. I had to jog a little bit to catch up with the quarterbacks long stride. Eventually I got to him and evened my stride with his. "Public Relations huh? What would you be doing?" He asked, trying to make small talk.
"Well I'm applying for the event marketing job. So I would plan promotions for the team and try to get fans more involved," I explained. I crossed my arms over my chest.
"That's really cool, if I wasn't a big time quarterback maybe I'd do that," Aaron laughed.
"Someone's a little full of himself," I laughed with him. I never thought that Aaron would be the one to help me find my way. I thought it would be a maintenance worker not the quarterback.
"So are you a fan of the Packers?" He asked. His bright eyes glanced sideways at me as a crooked smile spread across his lips.
"Yeah, my family has season tickets. So we come to a lot of games," I explained. I was at the first game he started after Brett left.
"That's awesome. I love Green Bay. The fans are so loyal and really treat us players like family," Aaron said, a genuine smile on his face this time. Small talk with him was so natural. It didn't seem fake, like he was just pretending to be nice. He seemed genuine from the way his eyes flickered and the corners of his lips curved.
"We have arrived to your destination, please keep all hands and feet at your sides until we have come to complete stop," Aaron said in his best tour guide voice. Our walk came to a halt as we stood in front of a large wooden door. I looked at the sign and we finally arrived to the room I needed to be in.
"Thank you so much! I will make it up to you somehow," I said letting out a sigh of relief. I checked my watch, it said 9:43. I made it just on time.
"You could make it up to me by accompanying me for a lovely dinner," Aaron suggested. A sideways smirk played across his lips. My cheeks flushed with color. Was Aaron Rodgers really asking me out on a date?
"I would love to," I said hugging him, before slipping into the heavy wooden doorway.
"Good luck," Aaron called after me just before I was out of ear shot.
I hope you liked it! Sorry for the delay!!
