Run a bath and pop a little champagne, I love the way we celebrate. Oh 'cause you know, that I'm good with watching old movies.• • •
Snow flakes were falling from the sky and landing everywhere, the newest one landed promptly on my nose. The stadium was freezing, despite being surrounded by thousands of fellow Viking fans. I lost feeling in my toes around the beginning of the second quarter. I somehow managed to keep the circulation in my fingers going thanks to the constant clapping. The Vikings were having a phenomenal game, it was so much easier to deal with the cold weather when the team did well.
Winning this game meant so much to the Vikings faithful, and as a girlfriend of one of the players it was even better. As soon as the clock hit zero we would be crowned NFC North champions. We just needed to keep the lead I kept thinking as our offense trotted onto the field. They looked calm and ready.
Sam Bradford collected the ball into his hands and handed it off to Adrian Peterson who got a modest gain. On the next down he looked downfield for an open man. And the one he found was my man. #82 was left wide open and was running towards the end zone.
"TOUCHDOWN!!! KYLE RUDOLPH!" The announcer blared throughout the entire stadium.Everyone was jumping up and down with excitement and you could feel the bleachers shaking.
"That's my boyfriend!" I yelled and high five the people around me. Slowly the clock finally hits zero and the NFC North officially belongs to the Vikings. Once my mind leaves the game it goes right back to remembering how cold I actually am, and through my wide smile my teeth chatter ferociously.
As the stadium clears out, I go to wait outside of the locker room for Kyle. He was the one that scored the touchdown that assured the Vikings a win, and I wanted to be one of the first to congratulate him. Other wives and families waited outside of the locker room patiently. My teeth were still chattering as the door finally opened to reveal Kyle.
The tall man spotted me instantly and his straight face turned into a smile that was almost warm enough to heat my whole body, but still I shivered. Kyle's large arms wrapped around me as I drape my arms around his neck and my face pushed into chest. "Great game, babe. That touchdown catch was the best one I have ever seen," I congratulate him.
"Thanks, Britta. You're shaking though!" He acknowledges my shaking body.
"It was really cold. I didn't realize how cold it actually was until the game ended."
"I'm sorry babe. I have a quick meeting upstairs. You drive home with the heat on full blast, take a hot bubble bath, turn on the fireplace, and make us two cups of hot chocolate. And we can watch The Notebook," he rubs my back trying to provide me any warmth that he possibly can. "How does that sound?"
My face leaves the warmth of his chest to look into his beautiful blue eyes as my lips spread into a smile. "That sounds perfect."
He pulls me into him for one more tight squeeze as he plants a kiss on the top of my head. "Have fun at your meeting! Hurry home, love!" My lips reach up to kiss his before we go our separate ways. I shiver all the way through the parking lot to my car.
I turn on the ignition and wait for the heat to begin oozing out of the vents. Finally, the heat brings circulation back to my toes and my drive home begins.
About an hour later I find myself stepping out of the warm bath as I hear the front door open. I quickly slip into some comfy clothes and go to meet Kyle. "How was your meeting?"
"It was good. Are you any warmer?" He asks as he finally gets his last shoe off.
"Much warmer, but I think snuggling in close to you would make me even better," I flirt with him as he flashes me a crooked smile.
"I'm going to change out of my dress clothes, I'll meet you on couch," Kyle says as he lightly jogs down to our bedroom. A few minutes later he is waiting for me on the couch as I bring in two cups of hot chocolate. I snuggle in close to his body and wrap my arms around him, while carefully holding on to the cup of cocoa.
Kyle flips through the DVR until he finds The Notebook. "Some people are happy with nights out on the town and going crazy, but this night with you is my perfect night. I can't think of anything I'd rather be doing," I say as our movie begins playing on the screen.
"I couldn't agree more, Britta. I would rather sit and watch The Notebook with you than go out with the guys any day," he leans his head on top of mine. This is my bliss. My happiness.
