"What are you playing at with LYLA?"

"I'm not sure what you're talking about, LANIE, is it?" I say with confusion evident on my face.

She turns a light shade of pink and narrows her eyes at me. "Don't pretend that you don't know my name. Stupidity isn't an attractive feature on you." she gently pushes her hair out of her face before continuing. "Now, I'll ask you again. What are you playing at with her?"

I lean against the door frame and look down at her with a smirk. "Look, I know that she's your friend and all, but what I do or don't do is none of your business. LYLA is a big girl, she can handle herself without having you protect her. Okay?"

She's blushing a bright crimson color by the time I finish talking. She takes a step closer to me in what seems to be a challenge before stepping across the threshold and standing in front of me. I instinctively take a step back from her. She gives me a small smile before stepping forward again. Before I can take another step away from her she grabs my shirt and forces a kiss on my lips.

It's over before I could really register the feeling but I know that it's not something I wanted. I gently grab her by the arm and lead her outside of my home.

"Don't ever do that to me again. I don't like you." I say with a venomous tone.

"You don't even know me." she throws back.

"I don't want to know you. Stay away from me and my house." I feel my face turning red from my anger that I'm trying to control.

"Gladly!" she says as she walks away, "You aren't even that attractive anyways."

I walk back into my house and slam the front door behind me.

I kept glancing back at her while she was passed out in the backseat. I was worried about her. Mostly because I didn't know what she had taken or what had caused her to pass out.

I know that she had a slight drinking problem before. I had seen her at plenty of parties drinking her body weight in alcohol. Lately, it seemed like it was getting worse. I had seen her stumbling into her house late at night after a party.

It nearly broke my heart.

Before I could get further into my thoughts, I saw the lights flashing in my rearview mirror.

"Damn." I muttered under my breath while pulling off of the road.

The officer walks up to my window that I already had rolled down.

"License and registration please." he said with an authoritative tone.

"Yes sir. It's in my glove box." I said while reaching over the seat.

As I handed him the paperwork along with my license he noticed LYLA in the backseat.

"Is she alright?" his voice sounding more measured than concerned.

"Yes sir. She's just tired, so I'm taking her home."

He nodded his head at my words. He handed me back my license and registration before waving me along.

I let out a breath that I hadn't known I was holding as I merged back onto the road.

I'm pulled out of my thoughts by the sound of someone ringing the doorbell. I run my hand down my face trying to erase those thoughts.

The person that I saw at the door was the last person I ever expected to see.

"Hello, Mrs. Dawson." I drawl out slowly. "It's nice to see you."

"Same to you, CALEB. It's always nice to see you. I trust that my daughter hasn't caused you anymore more problems." she narrows her eyes slightly on the last word and it has me wondering why she's here.

"No ma'am. I haven't really spoken to her since she's been back." I lie.

She nods her head in understanding and gives me a sympathetic smile.

"Well," she starts, "the real reason I'm here is because your mother wanted to speak to me. Is she here?"

I shake my head before speaking. "My mother won't be home for a while, she had a last minute meeting to go to. I'll let her know that you came by."

She nods her head and thanks me before leaving.

It seems like I just can't get enough of that family. I need a break from LYLA so that I can get my thoughts together.
