I swear if she doesn't stop calling me, I'm going to have to get a restraining order against her. I mean, sure, I get it. She's upset because I found out that she possibly cheated on me with that guy at my own party. That doesn't mean that she needs to constantly try to talk to me when all I wanted was space. Honestly, she just needs to back off and let me be happy without her for a while. Especially since she's already messed up so much as it is.
I feel my phone start to vibrate again in my hand signaling yet another call from Maya. This girl just won't quit.
With a sigh escaping my mouth, I answer the call. "What do you want, Maya?" I say with an exasperated sigh.
"I just wanted to talk to you. I wanted to see if you were done with needing space and ready to talk to me about this."
I can hear the hopeful begging in her words and it makes my head hurt. I gently pinch the bridge of my nose where I can feel my headache forming.
"Look, I told you I needed space, that doesn't mean you can constantly call to see if I'm ready to talk to you. I'll let you know when I'm ready."
I hear her sniffle slightly and I know that she's probably cried enough to solve California's constant drought issues already. I just can't bring myself to care enough when I don't know if she cheated on me and I kissed Lyla. Some things just aren't worth going back to when you have what you've always wanted at your fingertips.
"We're not going to fix this, are we?" she asks with defeat crafted into every word.
I shake my head in response and realize that she can't see me. "No. I don't think we can. Some things are impossible to fix once they're broken enough. I'm sorry, Maya."
She gives a small, hollow laugh. "All this time I've been so jealous of her. She was the only person you really looked at and she was so broken and tragic, she probably would've died if she stayed the way she was."
"What are you saying?" I question her in confusion.
"I had to get her sent away so you would notice me, not only that, but I kept her from hurting herself."
I let her words tumble through my mind before I speak. "You're saying, you're the reason she left?"
"There's no reason for me to not tell you now. Especially since we're never going to fix what we had. I recorded her at the party and sent it to her parents from an email with your name. I knew that they didn't want her drinking anymore, she told me at a different party after she'd gotten drunk."
"I can't believe you would do that. Are you seriously crazy enough to do something like that to a person? Actually, don't answer that, I already know the answer."
"It's just sad that you still care so much about her and she's with my brother." she gives a harsh laugh and I hang up on her before she can say anything else.
I need to find Lyla.
