Lucas
The first thing I realise is she's pulled away from me. The second thing I notice is the fear in her eyes.
"Eve? What-?" I start before the sound of a branch snapping behind me made me spin round. "Who's there?"
I make sure Eve's behind me, shielding her from whatevers there.
"Long time no see Lucas Jackson." A voice makes Eve tense and I swallow my unease. "You're a hard guy to get too."
"What you planning on doing? Beating me up like some school bully?" I laugh, a little too loudly.
"I'm not allowed to lay a hand on you unfortunately." The man sighs and steps closer, his eyes boring into mine and I could see the hatred. The evilness. "Your father is a powerful man. If I touch you he'll ruin my little business I've worked so hard to create and you're not worth that."
This causes confusion to grow inside of me. Why would my dad protect me? What's the point if he can't even protect me from himself?
"So what are you going to do then? Try and intimidate me?" I push for answers, knowing how dangerous this guy really was.
"No. I'm going to show you how weak you really are." He smirks and nods his head. I frown, unsure what that means until there's a yelp from behind me. Spinning round I immediately tense, preparing myself if a physical fight breaks out. All I can think of is keep Eve safe.
That's when I see the man restraining Eve, a hand cupped over her mouth. Her eyes are wild, reflecting my own.
I spring forward to release her but halt in my steps when my eyes find the knife pressing against her throat.
"Move a muscle and my friend will slit her throat." Stan sneers from behind me. I'm stuck, too petrified to move. Could I get to Eve before the man uses the knife? Unlikely.
"You're a fucking bully!" Eve gasps, her voice sounding strong but laced with clear fear. "How sick are you to enjoy fucking people over for no reason."
Stan's silent and I plead with my eyes to keep her mouth shut. I know Eve. She's strong as hell but often controls her emotions through anger. I know, I've seen it.
"I'd rather be a bully than a pathetic weak ass like Lucas here." Stan pats my back, making me jump a little. He chuckles. "How does it feel?"
"How does what feel?" I grit my teeth, unable to look away from the fatal position Eve's in.
"Being out of control? Being weak? Not being able to save your pretty little friend here." Stan's taunting me, waiting to see what I'll do.
"Lucas don't you dare take the bait, he's looking for a reaction." Eve says, making my mind overload even more."Let her go, she's got nothing to do with this." I snap at Stan, suppressing the need inside me to punch him in his smug face.
"But Lucas, she has everything to do with this." Stan steps past me and towards Eve. I can see the burning hatred mixed with fear in her eyes. "This girl always knew I'd come back for her."
I frown, confused as to what he means. Eve does something I never have guessed she'd do. She laughs.
"You really are a twisted sick bitch." She laughs, tears growing in her eyes. What's going on?
"Says you." Stan growls in dark anger, danger flashing across his face.
"It was two fucking years ago and you've still not got over it?" Eve seems in disbelief and I'm standing here, clueless as to what they are talking about. "Haven't you hurt me enough?"
"Hurt you? I've barely laid a hand on you. Yet." He steps forward and takes the knife off his mate. Glad as I am that the knife is no longer so threateningly close to her neck, I still have no idea what to expect next.
"You fucked with Lily and Harvey, now Lucas? When will it stop! When will it be enough!" She yells at him through her heated tears and all I want to do is comfort her.
"Lucas. The skater who beat me. Made me look like I was just a beginner." Stan turns and glares down at me. "You have no idea what this girl is do you?"
