Lucas
Guilt. I feel guilty. Eve is waving a DVD in my face, trying to lighten my mood.
"You're going to get wrinkles if you carry on looking so sour." She warns me jokily.
"Sorry." I mutter, not sure why I feel like I've betrayed her.
Something's up.
Not only do I feel guilty, but I'm uneasy. Abby hasn't contacted me since that evening and I thought she didn't have anywhere else to go. I'm starting to think maybe she had an alternative motive.
Dads disappeared as well. I haven't seen him in days. Although this slightly relieves me it doesn't help settle my unease.
"How come you're so down?" Eve asks, putting the DVD on my bed and staring at me straight in the eyes.
"It's no big deal." I shrug, turning the DVD round so I can see the title. "The Day After Tomorrow. I've never watched this."
"I know that's why I brought it over." She rolls her eyes. "Still doesn't explain why you're in such a shit mood."
I groan, mentally kicking myself for suggesting she came over. I'm shit company anyway.
"Fine, don't tell me." Eve sighs and pouts, crossing her arms across her chest. God she's adorable.
"Last night my sort of ex girlfriend turned up." I admit, wondering how she'd take it. Would she be jealous? No, why would she be?
"Ah, that's who I saw leaving your house bright and early this morning?" She says and I'm a bit surprised Eve saw Abby leaving. "She's pretty."
"Yeah well I regret what happened." I say truthfully. "I was never in love with her, we were more of a physical couple than emotional. We didn't officially break up when I left...it was all so sudden."
Eve nods, frowning slightly.
"It's not my place to say," She starts warily. "But I saw her getting into a car and driving off. I'm pretty sure it was your dad in the car."
This causes my eyes to widen in confusion. What does that mean? If Abby got into the car with my Dad...did he send her here?
"Shit." I mutter, running a hand through my hair. "You gotta leave."
"What?" Eve watches me as I stand up and begin to pace.
"Just fucking leave OK?!" I shout at her, hating the hurt flashing across her face. "It's not safe."
"So what?" She challenge's which makes me groan in frustration.
"You have to leave. Now." I insist, grabbing her arm roughly and pulling her out of my room.
"Ouch! You're hurting me." Eve protests but I ignore her, my only thoughts on when Dad might come back. I have no clue how far Dad will go to keep me quiet but I don't have much hope he'll just give me a simple beating. What I do know is if Eve really saw Abby getting into Dads car, then he knows I've been feeding information to the police.
"Lucas stop!" Eve winces as I shove her out the front door and then slam it in her face.
Right now, I don't care how rude I am as long as she gets out of this danger zone.
"I'm fucked." I mutter to myself, ignoring Eve's knocking on the door.
Without a second thought I lock the door and bolt upstairs to shut my curtains before she can get to her room.
There's one thing on my mind; I have to phone Detective Russell to see if my information was any good.________________
