The sound of my phone buzzing woke me up from my wonderful sleep. I begrudgingly open my eyes, smiling softly as I'm met with the sight of Eve's sleeping figure. In her sleep she'd subconsciously draped an arm around my chest, her touch tingling my skin now I'm aware of it.
Without waking her I reach for my phone, frowning when I see Charlotte's name.
"Hello?" I answer, wondering why she'd be calling so early.
"Thank fuck! I've been trying to call Eve all morning and she hasn't picked up!" Char stresses and I wince, too sleepy to deal with her girl drama.
"She's asleep." I glance down lovingly at the girl beside me, her soft features peaceful and content. She hadn't even taken her sleeping pills last night which makes me even more pleased that she's sleeping so well.
"Wake her up then!' Charlotte almost screeches and I hear a few voices in the background telling her to chill out.
"What's going on Char?" I question, not wanting to wake the sleeping beauty unless absolutely necessary.
"You guys need to pack." She informs me without further elaboration.
"Care to explain what you are talking about? It's too early for guessing games." I groan, stifling a yawn and rubbing a tired hand over my face.
"We're all going to the lake house!" Charlotte gushes with excitement. "The whole gang is going. It's a beautiful spot right near a waterfall..."
"Just tell them they need to be ready by one this afternoon." Leo says in the background but I just caught what he said.
"Ok ok, why is no one else excited?!" Charlotte sighs. "Anyway be ready at one! And don't even think about backing out of it, we have barely seen you or Eve since you guys became love birds."~~~
Eve seems to have mixed feelings about going to the twins lake house. Apparently it's something they used to do a lot. The twins parents are well off enough to own a lake and a wooden house on the lake side, big enough for a whole group of teenagers to wreak havoc.
"I really want to go, it's such a beautiful place." Eve says after she's finished a mouthful of the pasta I'd made her for lunch. "I just don't know if I'm ready to leave Benji alone with Tara yet. Max is working and..."
"Babe, Tara is an amazing carer for Benji." I place my hand on hers from across the table. "She's more than proved she's capable of looking after him on her own."
"I know it's just..."
"Don't you think it would be good for all of us to have some time out?" I point out gently, not just meaning us two.
The whole friendship group had suffered greatly the past few years. Now everything is finally fixing, a little holiday is definitely something everyone deserves.
Eve nods in agreement, finishing off the pasta and I clear the table, putting the dishes in the dishwasher.
"I'll talk to Max when they get back."
~~~
Charlotte's excitement was justifiable, I decided when I first laid eyes on the place.
The 'lake house' should be renamed as the 'lake mansion'. You could probably fit my own home in it four times. As well as Eve's for that matter."Impressive huh?" Eve chuckles at my amazed face.
"I had no clue the twins were this rich." I comment in all honesty.
"They're not."
"They must be!"
"No, their Dad had always wanted to own a house by the lake. He won the lottery just before they found out they were having twins and decided to buy and build this place with the money." Eve explains and I take my hat off to the guy for actually making his dream come true. "They don't have much left but who needs money when you own a place like this?"
"I'll second that." I agree with a nod.
