The next few days went totally normal. Except for the fact that Ms.Holliday wants to have our brains checked after reading our essays. Today is Friday and tomorrow is our big homecoming game, then the dance after. I’m both excited and nervous. Yesterday the girls went shopping for dresses and such after their cheerleading practice. Mckynleigh and Bryce are going together, they say only as friends, but I don’t buy it. Sam, Bryce, Cam and I had all gone shopping this weekend with my “highly fashionable mother” and all ended up buying ties, nice shirts to match the girl's dresses, and black pants. Nothing too fancy, but fancy enough that we don’t look like losers. We were happy the shirts were soft and didn’t hurt Samuel’s arm or back. Unfortunately though, Samuel was our best player and now he’s unable to play cause of his injuries.. It kind of sucks, but he’s still going to cheer us on and watch Marissa and the other cheerios. Sam is the quarterback and I’m filling in for him. I’ve only played quarterback 4 times before, when Sam got mono, but that’s it. I like to think i’m good since Coach Beiste made me the fill in, but that didn’t keep my nerves from eating my insides up.

“You’ll do fine!” Cameron said noticing my nervousness as we walked down the red and white, poster filled halls of Mckinley High. I shook my head, unusually doubting myself.

“But what if I don’t do fine Cameron? Huh? I don’t want to let the whole team down! GAH.” I have so much freaking pressure on my shoulders right now, it’s insane. I tugged on my light brown hair pretending to pull it out and making weird noises to get the stress out. Cameron glanced at me as if I was insane and pulled my hands down from my hair.

“I doubt Natalie will go to the dance with you if you pull all your hair out.” He said jokingly. I laughed and stuffed my cold hands into the pockets of my green hoodie that I wore over my #8 football jersey. Cameron had his on too. He’s #24. Well actually all the football players had theirs on due to the game tomorrow. The cheerleaders had to wear their uniforms too. We stopped at our lockers and did the combinations.  Mine was 07-09-16. I decorated my locker with my favorite pictures, One of the football team after winning last years championship. Below that was a picture of Cam, Natalie and I on the tea cups that Sam and Marissa had taken at the amusement park we went to this summer. Next to it was a picture from the same water park of all of us with Donald Duck. Then in the top right corner was a picture of Cameron and I at 8 years old. I laughed at the picture and my goofy haircut and Cameron’s clothes. That was the day I let Cam give me bangs to impress Carmen Linkinbottom back in the 4th grade. That was a disaster. Then I remember I went to school the next day and Carmen never spoke to me or looked at me ever again, even to this day. I remembered how Cameron use to dress, Polos, dress shirts, kakis, and big boots. Then when he turned 13 and made his Mom stop dressing him, he finally started dressing like a normal lad. Cam and I have been best mates since I moved here to Ohio from Ireland in the 4th grade. Back then barley anyone, including the teachers could understand my accent. Cameron chuckled when he noticed the pictures.

“Oh my god, look how young and ugly we were!!”

“Ha, I know! Can you believe it? That was like so long ago!”

“And now we’re seniors and graduating this year.” He said making me sigh with disappointment. I didn’t want to graduate.

    “Um, Damian?”

“Yeah?” I asked turning my zoned out eyes to my best friend standing in front of me, 3” taller than I.

“What’s that a picture of?” He asked pointing to the bottom of my locker door. I studdied it for a minute or two. It looked like it had the letters ‘NE’ on it in red.

“Cam,” I looked up at him once again with worried eyes. “I’ve never  seen this picture before in my life.” He didn’t answer for a few seconds, he only looked from my eyes to the picture again and again. “Cameron open your locker.” I scoleded, breaking the almost awkward silence. He obeyed and as he opened his locker. A picture was there, just as I’d expected. Letters.

“I-T? It? What does ‘i-t’ mean? Why in hell are those in our lockers?!” I shrugged trying to keep the mystery out of my stressful mind. I don’t need any more stress and lack of rest than I already have. I shrugged, and ripped the picture of the letters from his locker and mine as well, and shoved them into my History book. I nodded a ‘see ya later’ look towards Cameron and walked to class.
