A loud crash is what woke me, and I shot up, my eyes wide as I found Daryl struggling to keep the shed's door closed. We were surrounded, and we would have been able to get out if only I hadn't fallen asleep.

"A little help would be nice!" he snarled out in my direction and I jumped to my feet, rushing over to help him as Beth looked out the small window.

"There's a small opening, but it's too risky. I can't see what's in front of the door!" Daryl cursed under his breath as I pulled out my knife, slicing off the fingers that wrapped themselves around the frame.

I looked over at Daryl panting, "What do we do?" He thought it over and grunted. "Jus' gotta make a run for it. Get yer stuff." I did as he said quickly, wasting no time and Beth did the same. I looked back to him and nodded, "We're ready."

He used his fingers to count down from three, and once he mumbled 'one' he opened the door backing away as walkers pushed through. We cut through them at a fast pace, corpses falling every which way as we pushed our way outside, making a run for it as soon as we were out.

We didn't stop running, and no one dared look back in fear it'd slow us down. I let out soft panted breaths as my legs started to burn, but I ignored it and pushed forward. It wasn't until we found a creek that we stopped, and I bent over gasping for air.

"Dammit, Phoebe!...You were supposed t'be on watch. You said ye had it!" Daryl growled through pants looking up at me, and his gaze pierced through me like daggers. I shrunk back at his stare, frowning. "I didn't expect to fall asleep, Daryl!"

He came up to me, pressing himself against me, the action itself intimidating. He glared down at me, "It could've been worse. Beth could have gotten hurt, or worse, killed." Suddenly my body churned with jealousy. "That would have been terrible for you, I'm sure!" I spat back angrily, pushing him out of my way as I picked up my things.

"Maybe the two of you should just run off together, leave me since I'm the obvious problem here! I need to find water anyways..." I stated slinging the bag over my shoulder before glaring at them. "I've gone days without water. That's my priority right now, not what could have happened. You coming or what?"

There was silence between us now as we stared at one another, and I could feel the tension growing. Finally they both nodded and I turned around, "So much for a good day." I grumbled a we started to walk.

We walked in silence, each of us staring ahead at our unknown destination. Every now and then, I could feel Daryl's gaze turn to me, but I ignored it. What he said was true; yes, Beth could have wen hurt, but so could I, and he made it sound as though her death would be worse. I gritted my teeth at this newfound jealousy I held towards her, not liking it one bit.

Things might have played out different if it was just Daryl and I. Maybe he would be different...

"Maybe we should set up camp?" Beth suggested after a while of constant moving, and I turned around to face her, giving her a silent nod and dropped my bag.

Daryl came up to me, forcing me to give him my attention just with his presence. I looked up at him as he licked his lips. "We need to talk." I nodded slowly, having a feeling this would be the talk I dreaded. He led me away from Beth and leaned his back against a tree, looking at me.

"What ye said earlier, 'bout me and Beth...what were you implying?" he asked gruffly, and I felt my cheeks burning. "You seemed more concerned about her safety than ours...more than mine. What else am I supposed to think, Daryl?" I asked, tilting my head to the side as I awaited his reply.

His expression changed, eyes widened as it clicked, an he parted his lips to respond. "Ye thought Beth and I were...." he pushed of the tree and moved forward, stopping in front of me "....I'm concerned 'bout her because she ain't you. I don't wanna think about ye dying."

My eyes softened at his words, the vulnerability they held, and placed my hand on his chest. "I don't plan on ya dying anytime soon." he stated softly and cupped my face in his hands, pulling my face to his connecting our lips. And in that moment, I felt things would get better.
