"Hey, c'mon wake up." A gruff voice woke me, a large hand gripping my shoulder shaking it. My eyes peeled open to find Daryl looking down at me, and I couldn't help the smile that spread across my cheeks.

"Hello to you too, Dixon." I teased earning a scoff from said person. "I'm goin' hunting. Won't be far." I nodded standing up, "I'll come with you then." He looked over at Beth, who was putting a piece of wood in the fire. "Okay."

We walked a short ways from where we had camped, and I couldn't help but think of how quiet it was. I tripped on a stump, falling forward until I collided with his back. He turned looking down, and I was thankful for the darkness that hid the blush. "Y'okay?" I nodded, "Y- yeah. I'm fine."

He reached up to rub his calloused thumb over my cheek before he started to walk again, and I followed behind, being more careful this time. I couldn't stop thinking about what just happened; that was the first affectionate touch I'd received from him in a while. It made me realize how much I missed it....missed him.

He raised his crossbow as a rabbit came into view, and staying completely silent he shot it right in the head. I smiled as he whistled, moving to go pick it up, holding it up for me to see. "Dinner?"

I laughed softly and grinned, "Sounds great." He came up to me, his chest pressing against mine as he kissed me out of nowhere, and the force from his lips meeting mine almost knocked me off my feet. I moved my hands up to cup his face in my palms, holding him there with a content sigh.

Eventually he pulled back, flicking his tongue over his upper lip as he looked at me. "We should head back." he mumbled, and I smiled nodding.

The fire's heat warmed my skin as I watched Daryl skin the rabbit, my stomach rumbling in anticipation of being filled. My throat was dry, I knew I'd eventually get dehydrated but for now food was good enough.

"So, Phoebe, what was your family like?" Beth asked, trying to end the awkward silence. I looked at her, and noticed that Daryl's head perked up at the question. "Umm, well, I lived with my dad and two older brothers in a small trailer home." I started, feeling awkward talking about them. "What about your mom?"

I shook my head, "No. She left when I was younger, has...had a new family. I didn't see her after she left, just an occasional phone call." She frowned at my response, and Daryl stayed silent.

"After a while, my dad kinda lost it. My brothers were protective over me, didn't let me go out with any guys...or girls really. I remember when I had my first kiss and they found out," I laughed at the memory staring into the fire, "My oldest brother, Willy, actually punched the guy." Beth laughed at the last part. "He sounds like quite the charmer. Do you think he's alive out there?"

My happiness faded as I frowned. "No...he got shot by a guy who was drunk...he tried to put his hands on me and Willy pushed him away, but we didn't know he was armed." I stated my voice cracking near the end, and the three of us went silent. "I- I'm so sorry..." I shook my head quickly, smiling at her reassuringly before I looked at Daryl, who was staring at me with a strange look in his eyes.

I licked my lips standing up, "I'm gonna check for walkers." I said softly before walking away from them. Old memories would alway haunt me.
