Chapter Ten

I watched as Daryl paced back and forth near the small window, every so often peering out. "I'm sure we're fine here, Daryl." I stated softly, and he turned to face me as soon as I spoke.

He scoffed at my comment, but walked over to the couch before having a seat on the ground in front of me. I looked into his eyes before he dipped his head, wanting nothing more than to tell him we'd be okay...but I forced myself not too. I knew he wasn't ready for that.

"Daryl-" His head snapped up, and I close my mouth quickly. "Don't. Just don't, Phoebe." I frowned a bit, confused by his attitude change. "We should look for Beth, once we rest up." he suggested, and I suddenly realized why he was acting this way, that jealousy I felt a few days before coming back. I looked up at the ceiling. "You know, we're alive...that's enough for now. At least for me." I said softly, looking down at my hands when I heard him sigh.

"Ye seriously still think I have feelins' for her, don't ye? Even after I told you not t'worry," he asked, annoyance filling his tone, and I looked over at him. "I just don't understand why you can't just take a moment to appreciate the fact that we're still here- together!"

He glared at me and stood up, "Ye really don't know shit." he spat back, and I jumped to my feet and met his gaze. "I know that I love you." I blurted out, not caring when his eyes went wide. "I know that you either don't feel the same, or just won't say it, but I still do. I know that it feels as though you're pushing me away, that you don't want me...."

He moved closer to me, causing me to stop talking as I almost tripped over the couch behind me. He stared daggers at me before reaching out to grab my arms, steadying me. "I..fuck, I love you, alright?" he whispered weakly, and I held my breath at his words. The words I'd been wanting to hear for so long....
