I rolled over and noticed Smith was sat in the side of the bed, he was slightly hunched over his head in his hands. 'Morning.' I said and he sat up slightly and looked over his shoulder at me and didn't say anything. 'Didn't sleep well?' I asked him and he stood up and walked to the door, 'Could say that.' he mumbled before leaving.
I got up and put some clothes on before following Smith downstairs, he was looking in a cupboard when I came in. 'You wanna talk about it?' I asked him and he shook his head. 'Have I done something?' I asked him, he looked at me. 'Is this the Ross thing?' I said in a lower tone walking towards him not knowing who was up or wanting anyone to hear. 'It's a bit more than a thing.' he huffed closing the door and walking past me to another cupboard. 'I thought we had sorted this?' I asked watching him from the middle of the room as he went from cupboard to cupboard. 'We can't just get over this, it happened twice. Both times could have been avoided. It's been niggling at me ever since the first time.' Smith Told me being honest. 'It's not going to happen again.' I told him slightly choked up the guy I was talking to was Not my Alex. 'You said that last time. And here we are.' he said before going into the utility room. 'I promise it won't happen again. Please trust me.' I told Smith, he didn't reply, 'Alex?' I walked into the utility room and Smith was stood there with no expression on his face. 'Alex? Honey you're scaring me.' I said walking towards him cautiously. 'He's gonna leave you.' I spun around quickly and my uncle was stood there wearing his dirty white shirt and jogging bottoms. 'He is gonna leave you again and this time he ain't coming back. Not this time.' He walked towards me and I stepped backwards and into my mum. 'It's ok, you can stay with us honey.' mum was pale, dark circles around her eyes with marks all over her arms. 'No, no he won't leave me.' I said to them. 'Of course he will. Look at you, just a weak little cheating bitch. You can't give him a future can you?' My uncle said, 'it's ok honey, we can escape this world together forget about everything.' My mum said now both of them no more than half a meter away. 'Stop it. Stop it now. ALEX!' I went to run to him but he had his back to me, I went to walk around to his front but he kept spinning so I couldn't see him. 'ALEX!'
I was sat bolt upright with Alex holding my shoulders, 'Abbey!' He shook me, 'wake up.' He kept saying over and over. 'Hey calm down it's fine.' Smith said looking at me. I was shaking uncontrollably and really had no idea what was going on. I wrapped my arms around him trying to catch my breath. I heard our door open, 'what happened?' Katie said, 'nightmare I think can you get some water please.' Smith said looking directly at me. 'Hey you awake?' He asked and I nodded before tears started streaming. 'Shhh, it's ok you're safe.' Smith kept whispering into my ear. I pulled away from him, he wiped my cheeks of tears and brushed my hair back. 'See your home and safe and I am here.' He said and smiled at me. Katie returned and handed me a glass of water. 'You two alright?' She asked and Smith answered for both of us and she left. 'You want to talk about it?' He asked and I shook my head. 'I am fine.' I said stupidly, knowing full well we both knew the truth. Smith said nothing, he didn't argue he just sat next to me and let me rest my head on his shoulder. An overwhelming feeling came over me as his arm came around me, I felt for a split second that time stood still and the world stopped spinning. But it never does, the world will always spin. Until it crumbles.
I sat awake with Smith until the early morning sun broke it's way in through the window. He didn't fall asleep once, he didn't leave my side the whole night. 'Alex?' I muttered having to clear my throat. 'Mmm.' He said, 'what do you see in our future?' He shuffled slightly, 'What do you mean?' He asked and I moved to look up at him, 'do we have a future?' I asked him, 'of course we do, is this the nightmare?' He asked and I nodded. 'Honey, whatever happens from now we do it together, like we have been doing. What ever you go through I go through, ok?' He said and I nodded. 'Your really good at this sort of stuff.' I said snuggling back into him. 'Well you have allowed me enough practice.'
Smith and I opted out of work today since sleep managed to elude us most of last night. I was sat on the sofa walst Smith starred at his new friend Kappa. 'He just jumped from the branch to his bowl.' Smith updated me.... Again. 'You don't care do you.' He said walking over, 'I do, it's just I don't need an update every two seconds.' I said watching House Of Cards. 'It's fine, I just won't take any interest in your hobby.' He said folding his arms and pretended to be upset. 'Alex, we have pretty much the same hobbies.' I told him, 'I guess so.' He sat down on the sofa and put his head on my lap. 'Your pretty even from this angle.' He said and I looked at him and chuckled, 'is this sleep deprivation talking?' I asked him, 'must be because I can see up your nose.' He said and I shook my head and started stroking his hair. 'What do you want to do?' He asked me, 'i am happy to just sit here.' I said and he sat up. Smith is a little bit like a toddler, can't sit still for any period of time. 'What day is it?' He asked, 'Thursday dear.' I said trying to follow what Kevin Spacy was going on about. 'Shit.' He scuttled off into the kitchen. 'What's up?' I asked him and he came back with his phone, 'It's my sister's birthday today.' He said and I rolled my eyes.
Smith was on the phone for a little whole before he came back into the living room just as the final episode of the first series finished. 'So? How much trouble you in?' I asked him. 'Well, not too much since I told her that we would come to see her on Saturday.' He said sitting down next to me, 'is that alright?' He asked and I nodded, he hadn't seen his family in a while. 'We will have to go and see my mum tomorrow then.' I told him, it feeling more like a chore than a pleasure and he nodded, 'Ok sounds like a plan.' He held my hand and both rested in my knee. 'She will get better.' He said and I nodded, 'I know. I just dont know weather I want her out. She can't go back to her house, and I don't think that she will be up for seeing me daily since she can't stand seeing me every other week.' I told him, 'That sounds awful.' I regretted. Smith said nothing, he simply kissed me on the head and cuddled me.
We decided to go out to lunch, nothing special we picked up some KFC and sat next to the pond on our bench and watched the ducklings swim by. 'You know it's been almost a year now?' He said and I looked at him, 'Since what?' I asked watching the ducklings huddle around their mother. 'Since you showed up. This time last year, April you appeared.' Smith threw a chip to the ducks. 'Yeah I and I have been causing trouble ever since.' I said, Smith looked at me, 'I am joking.' I said and he smiled. 'You know you were talking about the future?' Smith said throwing the last of his crispy chip crumbs to the green crested ducks. 'I do recall us having a talk about it.' I said, 'why? What have you seen in your crystal ball?' I asked him taking his box ready to take to the bin, he hesitated to say anything, 'Us. That's what I see.' He said and I smiled at him before getting up to the bin. I heard him sigh.
