The place. The United States. A small town in the centre of the country. The year. 1942. Two years before the allied forces land in Normandy, giving the first step towards the end of the war. But for the moment, let's go back to the States.
In this small town, lives a man. A young man, with strong arms and gorgeous blue eyes. His name is Jordan, and he is the main character of this story, which begins in a church, during a mass. The priest is thanking God for his mercy when suddenly a woman cries "Why would God let my beloved grandson die? He was all I had!" To which the priest replies "God gave you your grandson. His was the right to have him back". Unable to control himself Jordan stands up "Then he can have you back, because we don't want that bullshit down here!" he yells. And that is how Jordan was expelled from the temple for good.
So, he is waiting for his family, sitting in a bench, when he spots a lady, with dark curly hair, green eyes and a lovely figure. And here comes the weird thing: she's wearing a dark blue Yellow! Green! Orange! Just like they were trying to forget that they had a brother, or a husband, or a father, or just a friend who had been sleeping covered in mud, blood and tears for months. She's called Madge, he hears. And that is how Jordan fell in love with Madge.
One night, Madge is coming home late from work, when she realises someone is following her. She gets into an alley trying to escape. Poor child. Such a mistake she makes. "Please, please!" she shouts "I have a sick mother! Just take my money, please!" she begs. The man takes her by the wrists but, there is another man standing in the alley, looking at them. It's Jordan! And the next thing he can remember is the man lays on the ground, trying to stop a nosebleed. And that is how Madge fell in love with Jordan.
Madge's new love is noticed by her mother, Ada, for an elderly's eyes can see things that the young's can't. As a result, she invites Jordan to have tea, and once both are comfortably sat, she leans forward and says "I know you want to marry Madge. But if you want my blessing, you will have to do something for me first. You will stay a whole year with no letters, no talking, not even seeing each other. And then and only then, will Madge send you an answer, if such are their desires. Do we have a deal?". "We do" answers Jordan. Next day, he leaves the city to work at his uncle's in Canada. And a year of hard work passes, but he receives no letter. So he waits a month and another and another. And that is how Jordan's heart was pierced.
Heartbroken, he enlists the army, and on July 6th, he lands in Normandy. And like if God was laughing at him, he survives. He feels a terrible stomach ache. Are they his nerves on edge? Is it the rage of battle? Or maybe a bullet in his stomach? Rapidly, he is brought to the hospital, where the doctors can't do much for him. But he couldn't care less, for in his dreams he dances with Madge, spinning around once and again. And she is so real, it takes him a while to realise that the woman in front of him is the real Madge. "My mother is dead. And she is a liar". And that is how Jordan and Madge got married, bought a house and had children like everybody else. But let me tell you something. I seriously doubt that anyone, not nowadays not back then, shared such a sincere love. Forever everlasting.
