Chapter 6
"I had a fun time with you at McDonalds." I said to Dominic sweely. I kissed his cheek and I saw his cheeks blush just a little. He grabbed my hands and pulled me close to him. We were chest to chest in a matter of seconds. He leaned down and kissed my lips so romantically, I practically melted in his arms. Good thing his arms were around me so I couldn't. After what seemed like eternity, we stopped kissing to catch some air.
"I had a great time too. I wish it didn't have to end, but I have a lot of homework to do and so do you," he said to me pointing his finger in my face like he was the boss. I wacked his finger out my face playfully and laughed. I waved goodbye and watched him walk down my steps and toward his Grey Cadillac.
As he started his car, he winked at me and drove off. I got my keys out of my messenger bag and put them into the lock. I opened the doors and when I got inside, the first thing I did was lean against door. I slid all the way to the floor and sighed. What a perfect ending to a horrible day. I can't believe I am going out with Dominic Perez. I couldn't wait to call Sally and tell her the deets. As soon as I reached the stairs, my mom and dad came out of the kitchen with disgusted faces on.
I slowly crept back down the stairs and said quickly, "Hey Mom! Hey Dad! How was your guys' day today?" I added a fake laugh in there to try to ease the tention. They looked back at me and didn't say a word.
My mom walked towards me and says "Yo no se. How about you tell me?" Uh oh. My mom doesn't usually speak spanish to me unless I'm in trouble. I mean besides when I was younger to teach me spanish, but once I learned how to speak spanish, she stopped and talked to me in English.
"You really don't want to hear about my day. It's just school and teachers and homework. Nothing special. Hehe?" My dad did the whole one eyebrow rising thing that simply said 'Really? You aren't fooling anyone so the jig is up.' I sighed and went to sit on our beige couch in the living room. This was going to be a while. No use standing and listening to them yell at me when I can sit comfortably and pretend to listen.
"I heard a certain daughter of mine skipped class and got detention. After detention, that same daughter didn't come straight home. She went out with some boy like detention is all fine and DANDY!" My mom said sternly. On each word the emphasis on them got louder and louder. It was just one date. They didn't know why I was in the bathroom for so long and if I told them, they would make me drop Sally as a friend and then who would I talk to? I mean that would leave me with Beth and Dominic. Beth and I havent really hung out enough for us to talk regularly. Dominic is my boyfriend, but I can't talk about him to him.
"I'm sorry mom and dad. I should've come home after detention. I didn't skip class. I went to the bathroom, I would've gone back to class. Sally came in when I finished with the bathroom and we started talking and lost track of time." I told my mom. Technically, I wasn't lieing because Sally did come in and we did talk. My mom shook her head and patted my head. My dad patted my head and gave me a stern look and walked away.
My mom sighed and said "Que vamos a hacer contigo? You and Sally need to realize socialize on your own guys' time, not school time. You can't go to the bathroom for 30 minutes and not expect your teacher to think you are skipping." I nodded my head like I was listening. She continued, "Besides, your sister would've never have done that." "Ugh! Here we go again about how I am not like my sister and how she is so much better than me. " I yelled and got up from the couch and stormed up the stairs.
My mom yelled up to me, "Martha Maria Copeland ven aca! You don't walk away from me like that."
I slam my door close and open it ajar to shout back at her, "Why? Because it isn't something Caitlin wouldn't do? Why do you always compare us. We are our own individuals." I slam the door back and jumped on my bed. I grabbed my fluffly pink heart pillow and burried my face into it. I cried for a little bit because no matter how hard I try, I can never be good enough.
I don't know how long I have been in my room crying, but all of a sudden, I heard a knock at the door. I screamed "Go away! I don't want to talk to anyone."
"It's Caitlin, open up." I heard from the other side of the door. Of course she would knock on my door. She's the sweetest little angel in the whole wide world and always wants to make me feel better because she is the perfect sister. Blah blah blah.
"Why would I want you in here? Just go away please. " I yell back at her. I listened to see if she would walk away. I heard footsteps walk in another direction. I know we may argue, but I was hoping she would've continued to knock on the door. I need someone right now and even if it's Caitlin, she is still my sister. I don't want to sit here and cry anymore. I turned over, got under the covers, and closed my eyes.
Maybe a good night's rest could help me sort this out.
