It was the night that I was going to go against the City Council and to say I was shitting myself would be an understatement.

There was normally only a few people at this each week as nobody really cared about the stupid small things they would be talking about such as licensing your pet. However, the place was full tonight as everyone that went to my high school were there hoping I was going to win. There was also older people sitting angrily, not liking the idea of me going against the law of public dancing.

I sat beside Wes and Mickey, nervous as hell. I knew I wasn't going to back down though, I would let to many people down. I wanted this so bad and I was going to try my very best to get it.

I turned around in my seat, looking for Ariel in the huge crowd. There were a lot of people standing at the back as there wasn't even enough seats for everyone. I soon spotted her, standing at the back beside Rusty.

She was already looking at me with a huge grin on her face, which I soon returned. She pulled the first few buttons out of her red and black flannel, opening it up so I could see the top that was underneath it. It read 'Dance your ass off.' and I couldn't help but laugh to myself because I knew this was exactly something Ariel would do.

When I turned around, Michael began to speak in my ear, "Hey, What's your secret plan? You gonna get up there and buggie?"

"Yeah," I replied sarcastically, "I wish it was that easy."

"Meeting will now come to order." The head of the city council and principal of our school, Rodger announced, "Before we begin I would like to remind all you kids, we are conducting a serious meeting, that means no disturbances will be tolerated. The floor is now open."

This was my time to stand up and speak on behalf of all the young people in this town.

Everyone stared at me as I stood from my seat, "My name is Luke Hemmings and I am here on behalf of most of the senior class of Beaumont high that the law against public dancing within the town limits of Beaumont be abolished."

All of the people my age began to clap and cheer after I had finished speaking, whereas there were older people who were shaking their head at me, as if they were never going to let us get what we wanted.

"Rodger, If I could just address Mr Hemmings for a moment about this matter." Ariel's Dad spoke up after everyone had quieted down, "Luke, besides the liquor and the drugs and the bad behaviour that seems to always accompany these types of unsupervised events, the thing that really distresses me the most, more than any of that, is the spiritual corruption. These dances, this music, it does distort young people's attitudes. You might find it funny but I firmly believe that dancing can be destructive and celebrating certain types of music can be destructive. I think that you are going to find that most of the people in this community are going to agree with me." He smiled at me, knowing that what he was saying was what a lot of other people were thinking.

All of the older people began to clap, showing that they did, in fact, agree with reverent Moore.
