It was a few days after we had went out of town to go to the country dance. I was sitting doing my homework in the living room when I heard a car pulling up outside of my house.

When I looked out the window, I could see Luke's uncle Wes, walking into the house along with my Father.

They walked into the kitchen which was right next to the living room, so I could hear them perfectly. I wondered why my Dad would be talking to him anyway, they aren't particularly friends. They only really talk after church on a Sunday.

"I wanted to talk to you about-" My Father paused a few moments before continuing, "My Daughter, and Luke."

This caused my face to screw my face up on confusion, wondering why on earth my Dad would invite Luke's uncle over to our house so they could talk about Luke and I.

I walked over to the living room door and out my ear up against it, so I could hear what they were saying about us.

"Wes I know that your nephew is new to town and I understand that everyone needs a friend, but I'm not comfortable with Luke pursuing Ariel." My father explained, which immediately made my blood boil, how dare he act like I am any better than Luke when we all know that isn't true.

There was a moment of silence before Wes finally replied to what my Father had said, "Pursuing?"

"Yeah, you have two little girls of your own and I think you should understand where I am coming from here Wes, as a father." My Father said, although I don't think anyone would really understand where he is coming from.

"No, no I don't." Wes grunted,  "Why don't you tell me what Luke did exactly?"

"Well, I hear he has been having trouble at school, trouble with drugs." My father announced, although I knew that wasn't true. Luke told me what went down, it was only Josh trying to get him to smoke weed and he got caught in the middle of it all. Of course my Dad would listen and believe all the rumors about him though.

"Drugs?" Wes asked, laughing a little, "Where did you hear that? From Rogers? That guy is a bully!"

"It doesn't matter where I heard it, the fact is that I did hear it. I don't want that influence around my daughter." My Father nearly roared, obviously beginning to get angry with the whole situation. He had no right to be, he just assumes everything about Luke is bad when he doesn't even know him in the slightest.

"Influence, huh? Reverent, have you ever seen anyone die from leucemia? It's slow, ugly." Wes began quietly, "And that boy had to watch his Mother go the whole way through it - alone. He Dad was useless, never lifted a finger to help either of them. When she got sick he got up and left. It was Luke who took care of her. Now you may think Luke isn't good enough for your daughter, but I could argue it's the other way around."

"Well I just wanted to make myself clear." My Father said after awhile and I soon heard the door opening and closing again, letting me know that Wes had left and my Father was probably away doing something for the community.

I sat down and thought about what Wes had said, and he was completely right. I don't know what my Father thinks makes me better than Luke, I haven't done anything half as brave as Luke has done. I'm just a spoilt brat who get's everything handed to her.

After I finished the rest of my homework, Rusty and I made our way over to the garages where Luke and Michael had told us they were, washing a few cars to get some money.
