I clutched a glass of orange juice in one hand and a plate of French toast on the other. Setting my breakfast on the kitchen table, I plowed down on one of the chairs joining my parents. My dad was halfway done with his plate of food and my mom was taking slow sips of steaming hot coffee from her large mug. Today was the day that I’d bring up the dating factor again.
“How was your weekend?” My mom asked, after taking yet another slow sip of her coffee.
“Anything eventful happened?” dad asked with raised eyebrows.
I looked down at my plate to summon the events that occurred Friday night at Jamie’s party. Let see, well I made out with my ex-boyfriend and things got pretty serious when he poured out his soul to me begging me to take him back but when I refused he threw a fit and stormed off then I ran into Nathan, the current guy I was crushing on and did something out of character by making out with him as well.
I absently ran two fingers across my lips, they were swollen and they felt used.
“Nope,” I answered taking a huge mouthful of the French toast. “Nothing eventful happened, aunt Sophie came by and we made cookies.” I added while chewing rapidly.
Aunt Sophie had decided to grace me with her presence after all. She came by Saturday night and I helped her bake mom’s famous soft and chewy chocolate chip cookies to impress some guy she was interested in. She had also had taken the time to dig into my life, I told her just about everything from school to Logan and Nathan. It felt nice to talk to a grown up about it, she didn’t judge me at all. The great words she left me with were: “Go with your gut, go with your instincts, go for what you want. You shouldn’t feel bad for wanting this Nathan kid, go for it kiddo.”
Her words left me thinking all night long. I did want Nathan and he wanted me too and so what if Logan didn’t like it. We were no longer together anymore so I shouldn’t have to worry about what he thinks. I may still have some lingering feelings for him but the ones I have for Nathan were stronger and it was worth it to ask my parents’ permission to go out with him.
“So um,” I began after downing the entire glass of orange juice. “Remember that time I asked you guys if I could go out on dates and you said you had to meet the guy first before that could happen.”
“Yes,” my mother said drawing out the y.
“Well,” I said nervously, my voice was shaky. “Someone asked me out and I was wondering if you guys would be okay with it if I went out with him.”
My dad cleared his throat loudly. “Who is this someone?”
Oh crap! I’d completely forgotten that my dad knew about Logan. He didn’t like Logan at all and by the creases on his forehead he probably thought I was talking about Logan.
“His name is Nathan,” I told him. “He goes to Kennedy Prep, I met him at the mall, we were both shopping for books.” I lied on the last line. He was shopping for books and I was there to trying to repair my friendship with Quinn.
“How old is he?” mom asked.
“Seventeen,” I answered hastily. “He’s a senior.”
“A senior?” My questioned, chuckling to himself. “I don’t trust seniors.”
I turned to my mom with pleading eyes.
“When does he want to take you out?” She asked ignoring my dad’s burning gaze.
“Friday night,” I told her.
She folded her arms in front of her chest. “I look forward to meeting him.”
