Zedd ft. Haley Williams- Stay the Night
Marcel:
We all sat awkwardly with my great uncle who is sitting across from us. My dad is helping my mom come down the stairs. Aunt Sally had given us instructions to not carry her. Which meant my dad. She needed to exercise because her legs would swell if she didn't walk around. She had fought my dad constantly about it and now it's a medical demand she's really happy. My dad freaks with any little sign of discomfort that she feels. It's adorable as well as annoying.
"Marcel, how are your studies coming along?" the King asked.
"Good, top of my class," I answered.
"I heard you skipped a couple of grades,"
"Yes, sir. I am a sophomore at the university,"
"The alpha university. I thought it was hilarious when your mother suggested it but it so happens that the young alphas learn more coming out. The new law of having the alpha degree has brought forth better days,"
"That's what it was for," my spoke. The king stood up quickly and the rest of us followed.
"Martak, I see you took my advise," my mom rubbed her hand over her belly. The permanent smile on her face can light up a room brightly.
"Well, having Marcy was an amazing adventure. It still is. So, now that she is almost ready to meet her mate I think dad needs a distraction to take his mind off of his little girl growing up," the king let a rough chuckle as my mom slowly sat down at her usual spot.
"Doesn't help in the slightest," my dad groaned and looked away.
"How did the meeting with the vampires go?" the king asked once she was settled into her seat.
"It didn't go at all," I said.
"Why not?"
"The prince went into transition," my dad answered.
"Which means the next queen has appeared. The prince has found his mate," a panic fell over my body in an angry anxiety that made me growl. I tried to cover it up with fake coughing.
"Is that what happens when they transition?" I asked. My mom's eyes met mine making me nervous.
"Yeah, so I hear. That or she is very close by and he can sense her,"
"Is it always another vampire?" I asked.
"No, she or he can be human. There was one time when the king killed the true mate of a vampire prince. Simply because he was mated to another male. Then he was forced to marry a noble woman. Fang traditions are intense. They've changed drastically with the new king in reign and now even more with the prince coming of age," I excused myself and went outside as they furthered their conversation.
Tobias and Zero rushed towards me. I went over to my mom's car and grabbed the bag with the puppy collars and treats. I had registered the two of them at the pet store. It had been the first register of any kind of pet in a year. It made me laugh because wolves aren't exactly known for having pets.
"Sit," I said sitting down in front of them and they listened. "stay," I said putting a treat on their snout. I waited a few moments before I gave them a nod and they devoured their treat. I put the tags on the collars and slipped their little heads through them.
I got Tobias a blue one because he was almost a silver-grayish color, very pretty. Any other color wouldn't have fit the color of his fur. Zero got a red collar because Jay had insisted that Zero's favorite color is red. It went with his almost black fur so I didn't argue with him over it. They're both beautiful. Thinking of the way they lost their mother made me think of my mom and my quirky best friend.
"You seem a little down," I looked up to see Cameron Jay's granddad.
"Hey, beta Cam," I said standing up.
"What are you listening to?" he asked.
"Twenty One Pilots,"
"The band you two are going to see tomorrow," he stated bending down to pet Zero, Tobi backed away from him and closer to me.
"Yeah, the very one," he smiled.
"That one is very protective of you," he stated looking at Tobi.
"He's the oldest," I said looking down at Tobias he was looking at Cam intently and ready.
"Maybe he can tell who his master is,"
"He probably can," I said.
"Are you upset the fangs canceled on us?"
"No, actually that's not it. I just... I was thinking about the ball. I'm not sure if I'm ready for it," he nodded he probably knows I'm half lying. Mom had always told me he knew when she was bullshitting him.
"Marcel, when you meet your mate it's special. It's not something you should fear. This person will compliment who you are as you will that person. I know sometimes we try and lead our own destiny by denying that the moon doesn't hold our hearts but what you feel for someone who is not your mate is a small portion of what you will feel for your mate,"
"Why would you say that?" I asked curiously.
"I presume that you are afraid to lose someone else by meeting your mate,"
"Hey," the both of us looked up at Jay running out of the packhouse with two ice cream sandwiches in his hand.
"Hey," I said forcing a smile.
"I will see you two at dinner," Cam smiled. "Remember what I said Marcel,"
"It's not like that," I laughed.
"Bye grandpa," Jay waved.
"What were you guys talking about?"
"Tobi being protective, the concert, and the mating ball,"
"Shit, is the ball coming up already?" he asked handing me an ice cream sandwich.
"It's on Saturday, fool," I laughed grabbing the goodie bag from the floor. I took out a tennis ball. Tobi and Zero began to jump up and down around me. "Go,"
"It's only been a few days and they already do the basic stuff," he said taking a bite of his ice cream bar.
"Yeah, except bring the ball back," I said as the began to wrestle each other for the ball.
As we walked back to the opening I couldn't help but feel betrayed somehow. I picked up a spray bottle and watched the wolves play tug of war with Jay while I sprayed the small plants that were just starting to sprout. Why did it hurt me so much that that fanger found his vampire mate? I had seen the guy once and we only exchanged a few words before he ran away. It shouldn't affect me. He doesn't mean anything to me. He just some guy. A guy who is actually spoken for.
