I've been sinking for a while
Drowning more and more every day
Gasping for air while my hands reached for nothing
Feeling so hopeless and lost
It seemed that I'd never make it onto the shore
But then
My hands reached and found something
The hand of a friend
They pulled me up and out of the waves
So I was able to breathe again
They guided me through the storm
And now I stand on the shore
And gaze out into the sea
The sea of despair
That had once captured me
Finally I've won this fight
I had no idea I could survive
But here I am
Alive and well
With scars that have stories
I will never tell
My heart has been stitched back together
My tears are those of joy
I know I'll start to drown again one day
But this time
I'll have a friend to help me along the way
