Adriannas P.O.V

It had been two hours since I'd been working. I glanced at the clock on the wall as I stood in the cashier place, 06:09 in the evening - four more hours of boredom and suffering in this oxygen lacking place.

I started feeling dizzy because of the food and meat smell coming from the kitchen and since the resturant only hade a few guests, I took the chance to go and sit by one of the tabels and started doing my homework. It hadn't been 15 minutes and the doorbell rang announcing that a new guest had come in to the resteraunt. I stood up and made my way to the cashier as an elderly couple came up to me and asked me to take their order. After taking their order and telling Mrs. Jade to prepare their food I looked out the door facing the street full of cars and adults rushing home from work.

Something familiar caught my attention. There, about 50 meters from us was a boy heading to the resturant. His white blond hair flowed with the wind and his eyes gazed at his destination - the resturant door. It was Kai. What the heck is he doing here? I thought. A small amount of panick started making it's way up to my brain, the last thing I wanted was everyone in our already snobby school knowing that I was working on a "mere" resturant. I excused myself from the cassier and told Mrs. Jade that I needed to go to the restroom. She nodded in response but I guessed that she saw something in my face that sceamed out PANIC since I saw the hesitation in her eyes.

When I came out of the bathoom after about 30 minutes I carefully went back to the cashier. Mrs. Jade looked at me curiously but I just shrugged apologetically in response.

I sighed in relief as Kai was nowhere to be seen. I felt someone tapping me on the shoulder so I turned aound and saw Mrs. Jade holding out a folded peice of paper. I took it and raised an eyebow, a question forming inside my mouth.

'There was a blonde haired boy that asked me to give it to you. He said, 'Can you give this to the girl who works here? She has chocolate brown hair.''

I gasped at her for a long time until I came back to my senses. I sat on the nearest chair and opened the paper and started reading it to myself.

Hi. It's Kai, the new kid.

I got the feeling you don't really like me but I just wanted to apologize for interrupting whatever you were doing in the wooden shelter.

I was going to say it in person but you dissapeared all of a sudden.

Again, I'm sorry.

I folded the paper again and shoved it in my back pocket of my jeans. I sat down again with my glass of water and the letter from that weird new kid who was super annoying already. But what kept my mind from studying to the upcoming tests was the questions that kept popping up in my head. How did he find my working place? How did he know my name? And why even bother care about an outcasts feelings about him disturbing her lunch time?

I heard my name being called from the other side of the resturant. I turned my head to the direction the sound came from, and there stood Mrs. Jade and dries her hands with a white towel. Her attention was turned on me.

'I see you have much to study for, my dear.'

'Yes, Mrs. Jade that's true. I've got many tests and assignments coming up.' I answered politely.

'The resturant is not so crowded today, I give you the permission to go up to your room and study there instead of working Adrianna. You've worked hard all this time and deserve a break.'

I guess I couldn't hide my surprise, which made her chuckle lightly. And then I smiled widely, sometimes she really acted just like a mother for me.

'Thank you Mrs. Jade, you have been kind enough to take care of me and after that my gratefulness has only increased with every day.' I said, walked up to her and hugged her tightly.

'That's my plessure Adrianna.' She answered while hugging me back. And then she murmured something under her breath which I heard without her wanting me to. And that sentence made my blood freeze.

'I promised your dead parents to take care of you and love you like my own child'

What?! We have never talked about my family, she has never asked me. But if she has promised them that meant that she.. that she k-knew them?

My breath hitched and all of a sudden I felt really claustrophobic in the old womans embrace. I pulled myself from her tight arms and smiled quickly before turning around, gathering my stuff and ran up the stairs which led to the big apartment above the resturant. The blood pounding in my head I shut the door to my attic room and collapsed on top of my bed. Hundreds of things crossed through my mind.

I couldn't think straight so I shut my eyes closed and tried to black everything out. I guess I drifted to sleep then because I woke up in the middle of the night. My body was sweaty, my breath heavy and tears has made my cheeks sticky. The same nightmare tonight too, except this time it was more than darkness. In this dream, I stepped in the darkness around me. And there, I had seen my father being murdered all over again. I had seen myself in a child version standing beside him and weeping like the world had ended, which it actually almost had. I had been put in some orphanage, been ordered to not cry and to obey the leaders. It had been a really bad time in my life.

I went to the bathroom, washed my face and then tried to go back to sleep. But as I expected, it was nearly impossible, I was wide awake. My thoughts wandered between Kai, Mrs. Jade and what she meant, my hidden future that I had not planned and my nightsmares.
